The pass is yours. You have every right to walk away from it if you want... Some legal experts might argue a pass isn't private property, just a contract with Amtrak. Even then, you still have the right to bail.

I show the conductor my pass, he looks at it, and then asks me to hand it over so he can get a better look. Am I actually required to put the ticket in his hand if he asks? 😕 My old man told me I should just ask what the issue is and refuse to hand it over—basically tell him to beat it. Is that even allowed? 😕

It happened to me once. I just gave him a piece of my mind and refused to show my ID. My buddy was with me, too, so I think he backed off once he realized we weren't playing games.🙂
