Common misconceptions (and how to fix them) in Philosophy ·

we were actually debating a few years back, which you don't even recognize as an addiction, but rather as some kind of illusion.
I would argue that as long as you continue to view these things as genuine necessities, there will never be any real progress toward something better.

It’s a nightmare!!!!! As far as marijuana goes, I think that’s actually one of the triggers—it explains why this is happening. On top of that, I’ve always been a highly emotional and volatile person. Check your PMs!

I’ve officially decided to quit weed for good. I’m 25, and about two years ago, my entire world was flipped upside down when I moved away from 622 miles my hometown in Chicago🙂 and got married. Life is objectively good, but I just can't handle being "on my own" like this. My old friends aren't here, and I don't have anyone besides my husband. The loneliness is absolutely crushing me... frankly, everything feels pointless right now and I can't see a way forward. I’m stuck in a loop of negative thoughts; I’m terrified of the future and constantly spiraling over whether I’ll ever be a good mother. I find myself questioning if I’m even sane. I’m perpetually irritable, my libido has completely vanished, and my brain runs at a hundred miles an hour—these intrusive thoughts are killing me. I constantly catch myself having full-blown imaginary conversations in my head... it gets so intense that I end up with a literal headache!!! It's madness.

I literally have to pinch myself and shout "STOP" just to snap back to reality!!! The fact that I can't control it makes everything feel even worse. Last night, I just broke down in front of my husband and told him everything. He keeps trying to reassure me that I'm normal and that nothing is wrong, promising he'll just hold me more.🙂

I don't feel anything anymore—nothing at all. I've lost my ability to feel joy, and it's devastating. I've even started worrying that I don't love my husband anymore... it's like I don't care about anyone.

Anyway... that was a bit of a vent. Sorry if I'm being a burden... I just don't have anyone else to talk to about this. My husband is great, but he can't get inside my head to truly understand what I'm going through.

...I want children, but the mere thought of that level of responsibility paralyzes me!! Even though I love kids so much.

Am I just afraid of independence and responsibility? Am I just spoiled?

I am constantly battling this sense of dread and dissatisfaction. I find myself picking fights with my husband constantly because he didn't do something exactly the way I envisioned it in my head.

It seems to me that you’re just terrified of losing your grip on reality... if we take into account what has already been voiced here on more than one occasion:
"You aren't crazy if you're actually questioning your own sanity..." Honestly, I couldn't agree more with that sentiment. It’s a fundamental truth, isn't it? Because, let's face it—true madness usually comes with a terrifyingly unshakable sense of self-satisfaction. The truly delusional people out there? They walk around thinking everything is absolutely perfect, convinced they’ve cracked the code to a flawless existence while the rest of us are left wondering what on earth they're smoking. If you're sitting there wondering if you've lost your grip, it's probably just a sign that you're still grounded enough to perceive reality. 😁 Whether you find yourself questioning things like that or you simply come to the realization that there's a fundamental issue at hand, you’re perfectly fine—really. Is it so strange to wonder? To feel that something isn't quite right? I often think we spend far too much time being told that any sort of internal scrutiny is a sign of instability, when in reality, it’s perhaps the only sane response left to us in this chaotic world. If you're sitting there pondering these things, if you're actually processing the friction between what is and what ought to be, then you aren't broken; you're just awake. Honestly, why would anyone want to live in a state of perpetual, unthinking compliance? It’s exhausting just thinking about it. So, take heart; if you're asking these questions, you're doing just fine.

It’s all interconnected, isn't it? You find yourself caught in this strange, exhausting limbo where, on one hand, your partner is perfectly fine—I mean, at the end of the day, you truly care for him—but on the other, there is this profound, aching sense that he just doesn't *get* you. How can you possibly feel seen when the person closest to you remains a stranger to your inner world? It’s only natural, really, that you’d start questioning the very foundation of your affection. If the connection isn't being met with understanding, how can you be sure if what you feel is actual love or just a lingering habit?
Look, at the end of the day... you really shouldn't waste your breath blaming him just because he's incapable of seeing things from your perspective, nor should you burn yourself out trying to force some kind of clarity upon him that simply isn't there. It’s an exhausting cycle, isn't it? Just like how some people seem to possess this uncanny, almost effortless ability to read between the lines and dive straight into someone else's psyche, while others—bless their hearts—are fundamentally unable to grasp even the simplest nuances of another person's mind. It isn't a moral failing on his part, per se; it's just the way he's wired. Some people are built to understand, and others are just... stuck. That's just life, I suppose.🙄
Viktor Frankl's take on the meaning of life in Philosophy ·
What is even the point of helping others if this whole existence—this entire world—is fundamentally devoid of any actual purpose or meaning? Is it all just some hollow gesture driven by a nagging sense of conscience, or is there something more? I mean, really, what for? One day, you’ll be gone, everyone else will be gone too, and then what? Why are we even bothering to show up at all? And how do you all grapple with the idea of death, seeing it as nothing more than the abrupt end to a life that never truly mattered in the first place?
I can't help but feel there is a universal meaning out there, something shared by us all... it's just that because it can't be pinned down through cold, hard logic or rational thought, you've already convinced yourselves that it doesn't exist.
