I ran my own company from '93 to 2000. Man, I spent everything—my nerves, my cash, my time, endless sleepless nights, and hundreds of hours stuck in meetings and negotiations... I was even trying to cut deals with the President of EXIM Bank, but eventually, I just had to throw in the towel. America is full of incredibly talented people, but it can be one of the absolute worst places on earth to try and run a business.

They actually invited me to audition, but we just weren't a match. I'm strictly a Blues bass player, while they lean more toward that soft jazz-funk vibe. Once we realized we weren't going to be doing any serious projects together, we just ended up messing around in the studio from 7 PM until midnight, jamming on all kinds of Blues. It's such a shame we didn't record it, because man, it was freaking PHENOMENAL...

Honestly, just get over to the States! You can set up a sole proprietorship for as little as $25. That’s basically just what you’d pay in filing fees to get everything registered. After that, you're good to go and can start making moves.
If you want to go the full LLC route, it'll run you a little more—maybe around $130.
