Spring blues or just feeling unmotivated? in Psychology & Therapy ·
For the last two or three years now, I’ve been getting absolutely crushed by depression every single spring. At this point, I’ve just accepted that it’s coming—it’s practically an annual appointment I didn't ask for. This year, it finally let up around mid-April, but man, it was easily the worst stretch yet. It wasn't just the usual stuff—the complete lack of motivation, feeling totally out of sorts, hating everyone on the planet, or having zero desire to even show up to my job—it went way deeper than that. I started seeing things. Mostly while I was driving home late at night after my shift. Streetlights and road signs would look like these tall, spindly legs standing there, or those green trash cans by the curb would look like people just lurking in the distance... like someone was actually standing there watching me. Every few minutes, I’d swear a stray dog was crouching by the shoulder, ready to bolt right in front of my car. It all felt so real until the absolute craziest moment happened. I'm driving home, it's pitch black, and this car comes flying toward me with its high beams on. Naturally, you can't look directly at them, so I’m squinting, keeping my eyes glued to the right edge of the road just to stay safe as we pass. But the second my vision refocused on the road ahead, I saw an old woman standing maybe fifteen feet directly in front of my bumper. I slammed on the brakes so hard my heart nearly stopped, only to realize a split second later that she wasn't even there. I completely lost it.
Do you think there’s a connection here? I mean, my job is fine—I work in a customer-facing role, which gets stressful, sure, but I’m a totally sane person otherwise. I don't hallucinate anything the rest of the year. Lately, over the last week or so, my mood has started swinging again, but I'm hoping it passes quickly.

I'm right there with you, 😁

Honestly, zombies, cannibals, and all those other "scary" tropes don't really get under my skin... I mean, sure, I'll jump if something pops out, but that's just a momentary reflex, not actual fear...

What we need is something atmospheric—a tense, creeping plot backed by a killer acoustic soundtrack..
Basically, something that gets inside your head... I don't even know how to put it into words...
And please, way fewer cheap jump scares...
If anyone has actually played Penumbar, then you probably get exactly what kind of horror experience I'm looking for 😁
