How tall are you? A one-pound daily fluctuation seems somewhat unrealistic; perhaps you should verify if your scale is functioning properly...
One factor that might partially explain your situation is that you likely have the hyperplastic type of obesity. In simpler terms, you have an excess of fat cells. While you can reduce their size, you cannot eliminate them entirely. This doesn't mean you can't achieve a lean physique, but it does imply you may need more time than those with the hypertrophic type, and you might find that weight returns much more rapidly...
However, if your weight truly fluctuates by as much as fifteen pounds in a single week, you should consult an endocrinologist immediately.

They might actually accept this on Health, but the headline... needs some serious work... if I weren't trying to avoid handing out warnings or penalty points, I'd say more

As previously mentioned, these results aren't cause for alarm, though they could potentially be linked to depressive symptoms... There are certain supplements known as nootropics—such as piracetam or aniracetam—but there isn't definitive clinical evidence regarding their efficacy. It would be wise to consult with a neurologist or a psychiatrist (since those roles are sometimes bundled together in practice)
Heart block and exercise: What to expect? in Health ·
I hope you won't mind if I change the title? This isn't strictly about manic episodes
Listen closely 😁
As you may already know, myositis or even rhabdomyolysis are possible side effects of statins, though the odds remain low if you're taking them alone. Those risks climb slightly when combined with fibrates... however, simvastatin has proven to be an exceptionally safe medication in numerous clinical trials (such as a major US study involving 4,444 patients). In those cases, everyone was on simvastatin because they were managing hypercholesterolemia—a key risk factor for heart disease, which can also be mitigated through exercise... therefore, moderate physical activity doesn't pose a risk, but the question remains as to what qualifies as "moderate"... it is highly individual... so, I would suggest avoiding overexertion at the gym, but please feel free to continue your routine...
Which painkiller should I use? in Health ·
It depends on what you're looking for... claiming that Tramal doesn't work is just nonsense, given how incredibly potent that narcotic analgesic actually is...
Well put. Those pain receptors you're referring to are nociceptors, through which inflammatory mediators act, while NSAIDs function as their antagonists...

You shouldn't apply creams directly to open wounds, even though theoretically something like Neosporin might offer a tiny boost to the healing process... essentially, what matters most for a wound is cleanliness, healthy circulation, and ultimately, good nutrition... if you have those covered, there's no need to worry
If you're looking for a local anesthetic that would actually be effective for this situation, you really need to consult a physician first... they might suggest lidocaine via subcutaneous infiltration... but as far as oral options go, what Angela Wright suggested
Psychotropic medication discussion thread in Psychology & Therapy ·
Two points here: psychologists don't prescribe medication, so that's irrelevant to this discussion, and besides, it's a bit of a tangent... Is anyone else experiencing side effects beyond just increased appetite? Perhaps some more serious complications... like tardive dyskinesia...
Fentanyl won't oversedate a patient; its main function is simply to manage pain, whereas any changes in consciousness are typically a result of the underlying condition rather than the medication itself...
I suspect this won't be effective since the underlying mechanism remains the same; it would be better to utilize two different analgesics that target pain through distinct pathways (central and peripheral effects). Regarding the question of morphine titration... for terminal patients, the risk of dependency isn't the primary concern—the goal is simply to manage the pain... I believe this specific case definitely necessitates an intervention from an anesthesiologist.
Durogesic isn't morphine; it's fentanyl. I find it hard to wrap my head around someone on a ward dealing with metastases receiving an oral analgesic... one can only imagine how poor their gastrointestinal mucosa might be. It seems most appropriate for an anesthesiologist to step in and likely coordinate a cocktail of morphine alongside other analgesics... do they have rib PCA at the hospital?

The issue likely stems from his digestion and peristalsis, which impacts how he absorbs the medication. It could be slow absorption, or perhaps the dosage simply isn't high enough... I believe the pain should be managed via IV or injections during those first few days. You really need to track down that doctor; there is no way an attending physician isn't on the floor at a hospital like this.

You can give him Reglan three times a day, or if that doesn't seem to work, it might be better to stick with Torecan three times a day during those first few days until the nausea subsides
Can Sevedol tablets help? in Health ·
Sevedol is morphine, which makes it an effective option for managing acute pain. It serves as a solid starting point for pain management; typically, one begins with a dose of 10 mg every 12 hours. However, do not be surprised if there is a need to increase the dosage within a short period—likely just a few days. You should accommodate this request. There is no reason to fear side effects when gradually increasing the dose, as patients who use morphine continuously can generally tolerate multiple standard doses quite well, even if they couldn't for someone using it for the first time. So, start with 10 mg every 12 hours, unless his doctors have instructed otherwise.
If those tablets prove insufficient, please do not hesitate to consult with an anesthesiologist.
Nausea and vomiting may occur initially, but these symptoms usually subside as the dosage stabilizes. During the first few days, you can administer antiemetics, such as Reglan tablets, if needed.

I said in the worst-case scenario... though the WBC 7.3 would be significantly higher for a typical case of hemochromatosis... but even then, it isn't quite that dire; there are far worse things out there... anyway, I promise I won't 😁

If you aren't experiencing any actual symptoms, it’s likely nothing to worry about. In a worst-case scenario, you might want to look into hemochromatosis... if you're feeling truly anxious, I'd suggest getting a panel done for Fe, TIBC, UIBC, transferrin, ferritin, and a liver ultrasound.

It would be best to consult a hematologist, though a general internist could work too; hypersplenism involves an overactive and enlarged spleen.
