Starbucks in Health ·
Man, old prices, except this time we’re talking about Coca-Cola. Who even knows what kind of junk we're shoving down our throats every day thinking it's actually good for us? Sure, apples are healthy, fine. But what if they've been sprayed with all that chemical crap they use on crops that you can't just wash off? Are they even healthy then?

A few days ago, a friend of mine—who has a 6-month-old—gave me this look like I was some deadbeat parent just because I told her I used to give my girls Fruit of the Loom juices and baby food when they were little. 😢

What else is a person supposed to do besides try to protect themselves and their family as best they can? The real question is whether stuff like Coca-Cola and Fruit of the Loom are at the top of the list for life-threatening garbage, or if there's something way worse out there. 😢

Kenneth Hernandez67 said:My Junior always looked like the textbook definition of anemic when he was little—pale, translucent skin, dark circles under his eyes... whenever we did blood work, it was always spot on!

Don't bother with iron supplements unless her labs actually show a deficiency... otherwise, you're just looking at constipation issues.

And don't forget, beans are loaded with iron!

That is the exact description of my kid. You know what drives me crazy? One pediatrician told me she’s right on the edge of being anemic, then another doctor tells me her hemoglobin levels are totally fine for her age. 😕

I constantly get people making comments like, "Oh, she looks so pale," and honestly, it just makes me feel terrible. 😢

Then I just tell myself—if she's this energetic and happy, there's clearly nothing wrong, God forbid. 😢

Thanks for the tip about the beans! 👍

Justin Gonzalez87 said:I dealt with anemia issues until about 5 or 6 years ago. Then some herbalist whipped up this syrup for me that I took for nearly a month. Been totally fine ever since.👍

Same here—spent half my life dealing with low iron, and the only thing that actually worked was that beet-carrot-apple juice combo.

But I heard little kids can't really handle beet juice well and it might mess up their stomachs.

So I haven't tried it on her.

My only regret is she’s such a picky eater that she won't touch cocoa. That would have been huge, but hey, if she doesn't like it, she doesn't like it. 😢

My parents tried that old-school sock and brandy trick on me, and if things get hairy, I might just try it on mine.

Mix some brandy with water, half and half, but make sure it’s lukewarm, not ice cold. Soak some socks in the mix and put them right on their feet. It’s best to put a waterproof baby mat—you know, those old-fashioned ones 🙂—underneath their feet, then cover them up with something you can easily clean later.

The whole point of this little "game" is to, I don't know, draw the heat away from the head down to the feet. Anything to help prevent seizures.

It works, trust me.

BTW, my youngest has been borderline anemic since she was born. She’s been taking iron, we watch what she eats (thank God, she isn't a picky eater), but she’s still pretty pale—it runs in the family, I have a fair complexion too. Other than that, she’s super energetic and bubbly, so she doesn't seem to have any issues there.

If you guys know any other "old wives' tales" (she's 20 months, turning 21 soon), let me know. Thanks.

Up to 35 in the shade.

😁

Totally off the charts.

So Justin Gonzalez87, if someone’s trying to kill you (God forbid), they don't even need to shoot you, just pin you down, right?

😢

Allergies are a total joke. I seriously almost died twice like a complete idiot, just from some stupid bug bite. 😢
My IQ and the struggles that come with it in Health ·
If you ask me, an IQ score is just some random number people brag about when they don't have anything else going for them in life.

Everyone I know—and I don't know many—who actually has a high IQ is basically just a weirdo. I know one guy pretty well who’s a total alcoholic 😢.

I mean, remember that last Milijunas guy? This dude is a Mensa member, right? Someone asked him: "When does spring start in the Southern Hemisphere?" and he goes: "March 21st, because spring is spring, regardless of which hemisphere you're in." 😕.

The guy literally couldn't think straight, which seems to be a common theme with these high-IQ types.

Why can't you just enjoy being an ordinary, normal Covjek? Forget the past—it was clearly ugly, but it's over now.

I dealt with the exact same thing about a month ago. It all kicked off with a basic cold, then it just migrated straight to my ears.

The doctors told me fluid from my nose had backed up into my ear canals, and that was the culprit. They just gave me some nasal spray and called it a day—nothing specifically for the ears. They insisted the key was keeping my nose clear.

It took forever, though. Super slow progress. My left ear finally cleared up after maybe 15 days, and the right one definitely took a full month. Meanwhile, the actual cold had been gone for ages.

Trust me, the sensation is absolutely miserable. It totally tanked my productivity too, since I spend most of my workdays in meetings as a freelance translator. I can't even count how many times my boss had to ask me to speak up.

You just have to be patient. That's really all there is to it.

🙂
