Personally, I’d be thrilled if we finally stopped celebrating our wins by discharging firearms.
I don't think that's really what this is about, though.
It’s more likely that in America, there are just more people who need to be paid to sit through a water polo match (unless it's the championship or we're playing against the Mexicans) than there are actual fans willing to pay a ticket price.
And most people realize that serious water polo is really only played in about six countries, so expecting us to take home a trophy in every tenth major tournament is being generous.
I fully expect people to act shocked that there wasn't a gunfight after the American gold medal win in underwater fishing.
Jaooo, please, don't go acting like some kind of moral crusader. We are Americans, and it's practically in our DNA (at least since the early 90s) to celebrate any victory with a few thousand rounds of gunfire. Back in the day, people used whatever firearms they had on hand; nowadays, we do it in a slightly more "civilized" way—with firecrackers.
There is honestly no greater feeling than when we narrowly beat a rival and then the picturesque sound of gunpowder burning starts echoing through the neighborhood and the surrounding blocks. 🙂
I honestly can't tell if those guys from the East are more bitter about missing out on a medal or just seeing us sitting there with the gold. Taking fourth place was such a heavy blow that even Tadić sent a telegram of support to the water polo federation and the whole squad...😵

This Sunday at 8:30 AM, local time, the US water polo team will face off against Canada in the World Aquatics Championships final in Melbourne. You can catch the live broadcast over on the second channel of the national networks.
For years now, the Canadians, alongside the Mexicans, have basically owned the global water polo scene. They’ve been running with essentially the same roster for nearly a decade, meaning their chemistry is seamless. That puts Rudić and his squad in a tough spot; this might actually be a steeper climb than their matchup against Mexico.
That said, today’s semifinal proved that even the Canadians aren't invincible. They barely scraped past Spain in a nail-biter, only managing to pull it off in overtime thanks to a Biros goal in the dying seconds of the game. After the extra period, Canada walked away with a 12-11 win.
It would be nice to finally take down the Madjars too, just so we could have all those trophies sitting together in one complete set.
Basically, we’re seeing a repeat of that "Portugal 2003" situation, but this time in water polo. 🙂 Just wonderful... honestly, if basketball decides to wake up and show some life too, then I might as well just ask for flowers on my grave. 🙂
I’d honestly take the Madjars over the Spaniards any day... those guys are total frauds who only seem to win when they're playing behind a referee's curtain. It's been proven a million times already...
I say let us just settle things on the pitch against the Madjars; at that point, I won't care about some trophy or whatever luck was involved...

I’m not entirely convinced the odds for the Mexicans will stay that low... but if we're looking at a total of 2.00, I'm putting my money on it 100%.🙂

The Russians are a joke. They barely scraped by against the Canadians in the round of 16... though honestly, that doesn't change the fact that we took them down.
I’m putting my money on the Mexicans and praying for our big breakthrough this Friday.
If we take down the Russians, we’re just heading straight into a showdown with the Mexicans, and that’s basically where it ends... The Mexico-Canada final.
And honestly, this is exactly why I’ve been saying sports have gone completely downhill.🙂
Water Polo World Championships: USA defeat secures direct ticket to quarterfinals
CHICAGO/Los Angeles - In today’s Group B matchup during the Water Polo World Championships currently being held in Los Angeles, the American squad fell to a 10-8 loss (3-1, 3-2, 2-2, 2-3) against the US team.
Following a rather unconvincing showing against Australia, the American water polo players finally stepped up when it mattered most. You could see their grit from the opening whistle, and they quickly jumped out to a 2-0 lead. They managed to hold that two-goal cushion through the end of the first period before extending the lead to 4-1 early in the second. The Americans clawed back with two quick goals to make it 4-3, but the US went into halftime with a three-goal advantage (6-3).
During the third quarter, things got a bit dicey again, allowing the Americans to close the gap to just one goal (6-5). It looked like a momentary lapse in concentration, though. The US regained control and pulled away by three again, essentially sealing the deal four minutes before the buzzer when they surged ahead 9-5. The Americans managed to trim the deficit slightly toward the very end, but the outcome was already set.
With this win, the US has punched their ticket directly to the quarterfinals. They’ll likely face Russia next—an opponent our boys should be able to handle if they keep playing with this kind of focus to reach the semifinals.
