Training Day in Movies ·
This was easily one of the best films I caught last year. I loved how every single detail felt purposeful within the narrative—plus, the visuals were just stunning. It has this raw, brutal realism to it that I really appreciated.
But you just can't compare books to movies—they’re two entirely different art forms. I love them both for what they are!

👍 Exactly! A movie is its own beast and shouldn't be judged by book standards. Honestly, almost every film I've seen after reading the book felt like a step down (except maybe Smokey Bear during the war, which was slightly better). You simply can't cram an entire novel into a 90-minute runtime.

My biggest gripe with Jackson is that quasi-happy ending he forced onto the end of TTT. The second book ends on such a brilliant, dark note, and he just... ruined it. It feels like he sacrificed the depth of the second installment just to pack more action into ROTK—which, let's face it, is already loaded with it (think Death Valley, the siege of Rivendell...).

Visually, he didn't have much room to play with anyway. Tolkien provided sketches in every edition I've ever owned, so fans already have a very specific mental image of how those locations should look.

The soundtrack in this movie is way too intense, especially during that opening scene where it’s just pure carnage.

But honestly, what really spiked my blood pressure was the ending. You spend the whole film waiting for this massive showdown between the Dead Rabbits and the Patriots, and then they all just gather around to stare gloomily at each other and... nothing!!!!😠

Besides, DiCaprio wouldn't have even managed to take down Daniel Day-Lewis without help from that little boat.😁 , he’s just not built for those gritty fighter roles—he's got a face that looks a bit too boyish for that kind of stuff.
Frida Kahlo in Movies ·
I watched it yesterday and was honestly blown away. I’ll admit, I hadn't heard of Frida before, but I ended up spending a few hours falling down an internet rabbit hole looking her up. Is it really such a crime to be unaware of an artist just because you had subpar teachers back in school? I didn't have anyone to point me toward artists like her, but this movie definitely sparked that curiosity. Should people like me—or anyone else left in the dark—be considered "lost causes"? I genuinely don't know.

On another note, the soundtrack is incredible—especially that one track playing in the cafe right after Diego leaves.👍
Jackass: The Movie (2002) in Movies ·
A buddy from college was watching a movie on his old media player. From what he told me, the guys really outdid themselves this time—some of the highlights were:

SPOILER:

That scene where they shove a car up someone's rear (the ER reactions were gold!) and that bit about swimming with alligators in Florida.
