Or maybe I'm just burning up!

Honestly, I'm pretty bummed they moved the festival to Movieplex. Even though the technical setup at the Student Union wasn't exactly top-tier, it actually had soul... and I didn't even notice if the room smelled or not (?!). The vibe here is totally lacking that festival feel. And I have no clue what this talk about Puhovski's 60 years is all about... whenever I'm at these things, it's always just the younger crowd. Like me, we don't really care if we're sitting on the floor or in some fancy chair. Just one big 👎
Totally agree, it's basically the same group of people every year. They can't seriously think the folks just showing up for a photo op are the ones keeping the whole festival alive!

If you haven't caught disco and nuclear war yet, you've still got a chance tomorrow. Seriously, what a movie... Hands down my favorite out of the 25 I've sat through so far. Anyway, regarding the venue... people who actually live for documentaries will show up anywhere, but everyone else just drifts in, snaps a few selfies, and calls it a day. Saw some total posers today just posing for photos, honestly made me cringe... they stay for a second and then head out because they don't even care about the docs. Nenad Puhovski would be smart to realize his real crowd is just folks grabbing a beer. Just look at the volunteers... no preppy kids in sight here.

I’ve been to every single one of Chicago's festivals, and this year is hands down the absolute worst. The organization is a total disaster. Even if you ignore how gross the venue itself is, the theaters are tiny... sitting in the front row feels like an extreme sport. There are insane crowds trying to get into theaters 3, 4, and 5, so jumping between screenings is a nightmare and everything is running super late. The vibe is just creepy too—everyone is whispering in those few feet of space because otherwise, you're staring at some ridiculous window advertisement for massive discounts on mugs near $167 and other nonsense. The big room at the Student Union was honestly brutal if you were doing multiple screenings since there was zero air... but honestly, that was still easier to deal with than this clown show. It used to be fine when the kids drinking beer were around, but now that they've "refined" the festival, they've pushed them out. Now we’ve got a fancy festival in a fancy place. Gross. And as for the idea that it's more comfortable for 60-somethings? I'm mathematically way closer to the college students than them, but I didn't really notice a huge influx of older folks. Some show up just to be seen, but the crowd is basically the same. Just disappointed. The lineup is the worst yet. Half these movies could easily have ended up on that ridiculous CBS show Global Glow. Such a shame.
