Monsters (2010)

I watched it without any expectations, then wiped it from my memory. Done.
The movie itself isn't terrible, but it’s certainly not good either. Bezukusan. I don't know what else to say. I watched Centurion and Altitude on the same day, and while this is definitely the best of the three—that doesn't actually mean much given how mediocre the other two were.
Since we're talking about the interaction between alien life and humanity on a larger scale, I’d compare it to District 9. Only this is worse. It's boring. And the characters? Nothing special.
On the plus side, the camera work is steady enough🙂.
Obviously, this wasn't meant to be an action spectacle—and if they had tried to make it one, it would have been revoltingly bad—but it still should have offered more. Those few shots of buildings overgrown with jungle are beautiful, and the wall and lake in front of it look surrealistically stunning, but visually, that's where it ends. I'm going to ignore that bit of softcore action involving those two land-squids at the end.
And god, the darkness drives me crazy. Everything remotely interesting happened in the dark. Pitch black. Look, I get it, they had a limited budget, blah blah blah. Regardless, I think they could have achieved so much more if they had actually put in the effort. Apparently, it's just easier to turn off the lights than to actually bother with decent effects.
To me, that just screams laziness and a lack of commitment from the crew. Either do something right or don't do it at all.
The film simply offers nothing unique and leaves no lasting impression.
