F1 Designers: Past, Present, and Future in Formula 1 ·
Wait, hold on. When Newey comes up with something, the man is an absolute master of aerodynamic refinement. You just can't touch him there.

I’ll say it again: to him, names like Gordon Murray, Chapman, and Roy are nothing short of legends.

Who actually holds the record for the most wins?? Just take a moment to consider who was designing for McLaren up until 2004.

Blah blah blah. Gordon Murray is likely the greatest designer and constructor in the history of NASCAR. Murray essentially invented the modern era. Newey is an excellent aerodynamicist, certainly, but he excels at refining existing concepts.
Murray's Brabham cars are the stuff of legends that Newey can only dream of achieving. Even his road-going McLaren F1 is a masterpiece beyond Newey's reach, especially considering the era it was born in.

Gordon is quite vocal today regarding his disapproval of the current direction of car development.

Roy Byrne! He has more wins under his belt! As for Gordon Murray, I'm not so sure, nor am I about Chapman.

It is quite strange that such a brilliant concept didn't occur to them.

Newey is arguably the most successful F1 designer in history, which means the Red Bull Racing crew should have just used a drill to poke holes in the bodywork to stop overheating.

Newey is absolutely not the most successful designer in history; he might be in recent years, but certainly not in all of history.

Formula 1—What kind of team standings should we be looking at for the 2018 season?

http://autorepublika.com/2018/03/10/...u-sezoni-2018/

It's a decent enough piece, though the analysis seems to be just a direct copy from Motorsport; naturally, I find myself disagreeing with certain aspects of their team rankings.

First off, I am certain that McLaren will outpace General Motors. Secondly, I am convinced that Haas will be faster than Red Bull Racing.

As for the big three, we have discussed them extensively already. Mercedes-Benz has clearly done an impeccable job, and frankly, their sheer speed is somewhat intimidating. Furthermore, I suspect Ferrari is in a much stronger position than current reports and forecasts suggest.

I am also skeptical that McLaren and General Motors will find it easy to stay ahead of Force India.

It appears Williams will be locked in a battle with Haas and Red Bull Racing.

Haas will likely sit comfortably ahead of those bottom three teams, yet I am not entirely sure they won't fall behind Force India and General Motors.

All things considered, there will be a very dense midfield, while the top three pull away, perhaps facing a slight threat from McLaren (meaning, specifically, Alonso).

And of course, I'll be sending him the cash for the ticket too.

And what happens once you actually send him the money? The ticket is sitting right there in his account, and he's the only one who can request the payout.🙂
If it actually hits, naturally.🤣

Short and sweet—you’ll be a real pain in the neck, heh.🙂Well, perhaps Templar wouldn't be interested, but personally? I certainly would.

It’s like if I handed Tibij my cash to go place a bet for me, only for him to blow the whole thing on beers at a pub in London instead. He’d just sit there thinking to himself, "Well, what a total scam."

It was you and Templar.

I’d probably put my money on Red Bull🙂 , if only they had an offer like ours ready to go. As it stands, I have to wait until May 23rd because nothing will be on the table before then.

March 25th is coming up fast. We'll see how it all unfolds.

What exactly is tripping you guys up regarding this statement from Raikkonen?
"If we HAD WANTED to go faster, we could have gone faster." That word "WANTED" is the pivot point here. It’s a clear indication that they didn't intend to push further. That single sentence completely dismantles Tibijev's claim that Ferrari is desperately chasing time.

Also, just for those keeping track, Alonso was sitting at -250 in the first two sectors before he cut the chicane.🙂So, feel free to credit McLaren with a 1:16.800. Is it any clearer now just how much faster Ferrari could have been if they actually cared to try?

Mercedes, the leaders, always show up with Mediums and hammer away on them. They barely even bother bringing the softer stuff to the track, and if they do, they might squeeze out a handful of laps before packing up.

Ferrari, meanwhile, is obsessed with chasing lap times on the softest tires possible, bragging about how they're the fastest ever and how much more speed they can find.

What's the big deal for you, 🤷
?

It isn't my concern, but stop drawing conclusions prematurely when it is logically impossible to do so.🙂

One thing is certain: a guy named Max Verstappen could certainly cause some chaos for Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari. I'd put my money on him taking the win in Melbourne, simply to ensure the season starts off with some actual intrigue.🎉

Kimi Raikkonen is easily the most blunt person in F1 right now. He mentioned regarding the testing sessions that they are essentially meaningless, even suggesting they could have been going significantly faster.

Furthermore, various media outlets are drawing conclusions based on certain race simulations.🙂 In reality, those simulations were either non-existent or barely half-finished!

Additionally, Mercedes-Benz used white tires in most instances. To my eye, this looks like a car that struggles to manage tire temperatures—meaning it likely overheats its softer compounds.

That specific race sim pace for Mercedes shows them running a full second per lap faster than the field.🙂 Please, let's be serious; these tables and time comparisons are completely disconnected from reality.

People are even going so far as to claim that Red Bull and Ferrari excel in qualifying while Mercedes holds the edge in the race. Last year was actually the exact opposite; Mercedes dominated qualifying.

There is no need for all this speculation. It is going to be incredibly tight between the top three teams in Australia.

McLaren will be the best of the rest.

Kenneth Cruz67 said:It looks like the teams over at Renault have already locked in four engines for the season. I suppose they might be aiming for those penalty penalties to grab extra engine upgrades, maybe more for development purposes than actually needing the reliability boost.
McLaren has announced an aero update ahead of the race in Australia. Plus, word on the street is that their tire degradation is looking really promising.
The big question mark this year is whether Ferrari will slip in the standings, and if so, by how much. That ban on oil burning seems to have really thrown them for a loop.

In my view, it is better to go for five—even six engines over the season. That way, you can extract more performance from every single unit since it doesn't need to last as long.

Red Bull should specifically adopt this tactic. Even if they start at the back, they are headed for a top 5 finish regardless. Meanwhile, there is always the chance that Mercedes or Ferrari might lose ground due to an engine failure and pick up a penalty themselves; it isn't exactly a massive handicap.

stormybadger8 said:Even if an alien version of Valtteri Bottas showed up, he still wouldn't be a threat to Lewis Hamilton in the title fight. 🙂

Sure, Red Bull might actually be better than Ferrari right now. It’s totally possible, and it might even be exactly what Ricciardo is saying—that this is easily the best Red Bull car he's ever sat in...
But let's be real, they aren't hitting the level of the Bear anytime soon. ☕

Did someone actually bring up Bottas? Did you all have a psychic premonition that Mercedes would dominate? You were slightly off with that one.

Max Verstappen is going to cause serious problems for both Lewis Hamilton and Vettel. Serious. If Red Bull is even half as fast as the rumors suggest—and I suspect they might actually be faster than people realize.
2018 Car Reveal and Pre-season Testing in Formula 1 ·
I am not entirely convinced that anyone besides Red Bull will be walking away with the title. Setting Ferrari aside for a moment, Red Bull represents a genuine threat. Ricciardo mentioned yesterday that the car is nothing short of phenomenal.

The McLaren car seems fast. I honestly have no idea what they're up to. And good grief, did you see them during the pit stop yesterday? They were turning the wheel completely the wrong way.

The cars are looking incredibly fast. Watching them together, they move in such tight synchronization that it’s hard to look away. Honestly, I think Ferrari and Mercedes ought to be looking over their shoulders; it seems pretty obvious that Adrian Newey has engineered some kind of wind tunnel masterpiece.

These racing times are completely nonsensical; if you can't see why, then I really don't know what to tell you.🙂, based on this, Mercedes would have finished a full lap ahead of Ferrari and two laps ahead of McLaren. Yeah right.

I'm not sure if anyone else caught this, but Daniel Ricciardo seemed significantly more convincing than Max Verstappen across all six days of testing, regardless of the conditions.
