However, we can't ignore how the Treaty of Versailles in Germany created this pervasive sense of national humiliation, which populists exploited brilliantly. Isn't there a massive difference in how we handle things after WWII? This time, the defeated nations were treated much differently, allowing them to achieve incredible economic growth. We simply cannot leave room for a desire for revenge to fester. In a way, didn't we see a similar pattern play out following the collapse of the USSR? That sense of humiliation and chaos was fed, and it led to trouble. This time around, shouldn't we be a bit smarter about it?
