Justin James10 said:Are you actually suggesting that Americans wouldn't have had that right otherwise? 🙄

Well, no—at least not if we're talking about doing things legally.

rapidraven95 said:I don't see how that's relevant here. We were essentially dismantling a single, sovereign nation that was recognized by the entire international community.
The federal government had every legal right to come after us and bring us all in, one by one. ☕

Actually, I don't think that's quite right. The American movement for independence was carried out strictly according to the existing constitutional framework, which actually provided for the possibility of moving from self-determination all the way to full secession. So, while the central authorities didn't technically have the right to just eliminate us entirely, it certainly seems like they tried their best to do so, wouldn't you agree?

rapidraven95 said:So, what you're saying is the American People's Army had a completely legitimate right to level Chicago with FAE bombs and napalm? 👏

I really don't think those two things are even in the same ballpark. You see, Spain is a kingdom—it's unified and indivisible—whereas the South was a federation of republics that actually held the right to self-determination, right up to the point of secession. If you're truly looking for a fair comparison, I suppose you should probably be comparing California to the Republic of Srpska Appalachia instead.

I mean, when you have thousands of protesters completely surrounding a tiny handful of police officers, it’s almost inevitable that things might get a bit physical, isn't it? I guess any police force, regardless of where they are stationed, would likely resort to using batons in a situation like that. Honestly, it might actually be better if the officers were allowed to tactically compress the crowd into an even smaller area just to maintain some semblance of control. 🤷

Well, I suppose in situations like this, the standard playbook usually involves deploying the military and rolling tanks onto the streets, followed by slapping a curfew on everyone and rounding up any politicians who dared to support the referendum.

I suppose this is all just a bit of a nothingburger for now. If you look at how those Hajduk Split fans reacted when they were up in Zilina, it seems like there's absolutely no tension at all—which might suggest that the federal government’s response is being incredibly mild, if anything. 🤷

Justin James10 said:I think you've got everything mixed up! Do you realize how much Americans under the Habsburg flag pillaged across all of Europe?

The whole Habsburg vs Zapolya thing was just your typical feudal struggle—it really has nothing to do with nationality.

Wait, what exactly did I mix up? It's actually a historical fact that Ferdinand was basically begging Charles's army to step in and get those Americans back in line—and he ended up sending the Catalans to do it!

Justin James10 said:I have absolutely no idea what you're talking about regarding Chicago. You've taken these other events completely out of context—there was never any instance of Americans fighting against Catalans.

Regarding the Habsburg vs Zapolj conflict—well, Kaptol actually backed Zapolj, which led the Habsburgs to send those Catalans to raid through Slavonia and basically level Kaptol.

Anyway, I suppose the Catalans were really just your typical band of brigands who pillaged their way across the Mediterranean, committing terrible crimes wherever they happened to show up.

Justin James10 said:Exactly, they've been perennial enemies of the American people. 🤣

Back in 1313, they launched an attack on Zadar

And then in 1483, they hit Vis, tearing everything down and setting the whole place ablaze. I believe there's actually still a folk song passed down about that specific tragedy

Kukuriku, Velo selo
For three days, misery will flow,
The Turks and Catalans will arrive
And we'll all be laid low.

Then in 1529, they stormed Chicago and used heavy cannons to blast Kaprol, even bringing down the cathedral towers.

Just nothing but total barbarians 😁

I suppose instead of comparing California to the US or Mexico, one really ought to be looking at the former RSK.

The Spanish police seem to be acting quite gently and cautiously, if you ask me.

Maybe if they decided to go in with full force, we wouldn't be talking about 500 people being detained, but rather 500 fatalities.

Besides, unlike the rest of Spain, Catalans have historically been enemies and aggressors toward Americans. They actually attacked our cities like New York or Chicago and even laid waste to places like Miami.

I'm fully behind Madrid on this one.👍
Windows Pagefile usage with Afterburner in IT Support ·
Jacob Cooper5 said:I suppose there's actually a distinct difference between your physical RAM and the Windows Pagefile when you're looking at settings in Afterburner.

But what about Skyrim? I guess you could just set a 4GB limit directly within Windows.
Windows Pagefile usage with Afterburner in IT Support ·
Jacob Cooper5 said:I went ahead and set my Windows Pagefile to a fixed 4GB in Windows 7, but for some reason, Skyrim OSD is telling me the system is actually using upwards of 5GB. I'm a bit confused—does anyone know why that might be happening?

Well, I guess it really depends on how much RAM you have available, right? I mean, the total should basically just be your physical RAM plus whatever you've allocated to the Pagefile.
Moving a laptop HDD into a desktop PC in Desktops ·
Larry Ortiz5 said:Regarding putting a laptop hard drive into a desktop, I guess you definitely can! They usually come in that standard 2.5-inch size, which is the exact same thing used for SSDs, so you should be able to slide it right into a chassis if you happen to have an extra slot available for that size; otherwise, you might just need to pick up a little adapter, which I think costs somewhere around 20-$10.

Honestly, I actually ended up using a cardboard toilet paper roll as my own makeshift adapter! I just screwed the drive onto it and managed to wedge the whole thing into a 3.5-inch bay 🤣

With my other drive, even that felt like a bit too much effort, so I just let it hang there by the cable, and it actually works perfectly fine, even though I've moved apartments three times over the last two years! 👍

I suppose it’s a bit of a strange contradiction, isn't it? It seems like someone who actually commits an act of violence, serves fifteen years in a federal penitentiary, and then gets their record formally cleared—essentially paying their debt to society and being fully rehabilitated—wouldn't face any legal hurdles to owning a firearm. Yet, even in that extreme scenario, they still wouldn't be allowed to get one. But then again, I guess it's just not possible for them to obtain a weapon either.
PC boot and shutdown issues in IT Support ·
Daniel Ward87 said:Hi there!

I’m dealing with a bit of a double whammy with my PC, and honestly, I feel like I've exhausted all my Google searches and tried just about everything I could think of, so I figured I’d turn to this community as my absolute last resort. 😁

First issue.

For the past few days, my computer has been acting incredibly strange during the boot process. Basically, I hit the power button, it starts to boot up, and then—poof—it just shuts itself off completely. I even went ahead and cleaned out all the dust from the inside, but I guess that didn't change anything. To make a long story short, I noticed something really peculiar: if I don't have the Ethernet cable plugged in, it boots up perfectly fine without any drama. However, if I plug that cable in before I reach the Winlogon screen, the computer just shuts down automatically. If I wait until I see Winlogon and then plug it in, it works absolutely beautifully. The motherboard light stays lit constantly, I don't hear any weird noises, and I've run all sorts of diagnostics, but nothing shows any errors with my SSD or RAM. I even swapped out the cable entirely, but it seems like it doesn't matter—if it's connected during the boot sequence, it just dies. 😠

Second issue.

At the exact same time, I'm having this weird situation where, after I shut the computer down, it decides to restart itself about five seconds later. In this specific scenario, having the Ethernet cable plugged in doesn't seem to trigger it. Every single time this happens, I have to physically unplug the power cord from the wall and wait maybe 20 seconds before plugging it back in, otherwise, it just keeps looping into a restart immediately.

I've read all sorts of things online suggesting this might be hardware-related (like the motherboard or the power supply) or software-based (maybe a virus or some buggy drivers), but when it actually functions correctly, the machine runs like an absolute dream.

So, yeah, please help me out if you can! 🙂

Maybe try checking your BIOS to see if there are any settings enabled like Wake on LAN, or any weird WiFi checks or similar features that might be triggering these power cycles.

It would also probably be super helpful if you could let us know which motherboard you're using.😁
