My first gaming PC in Desktops ·

Honestly, I don't see anything crazy about these specs...

In the tech world, we’re constantly looking back at what was relevant two generations ago, but who knows what will actually be standard by 6G...

For 12 $0.00, you could easily build two solid gaming PCs that would run games just as smoothly as yours does right now...

Definitely go with an SSD

You don't need a dedicated sound card

That GPU is fine; just pair it with an i5 processor

I really don't think DDR4 offers a massive boost for gaming over DDR3, especially since those older platforms are way more budget-friendly and proven...
Do you even need a PC for this?

There are solutions like this that have been around since $217 on more than

https://www.amazon.com/media-centers...0&pageNumber=1

If you need extra storage, just plug in an external drive. These things handle 4K resolution easily while pulling less than 20W... plus, they come with their own OS built-in... fully legal...

Who cares about high-end power supplies when this build doesn't even pull 100W?....you could run this on any basic $67...65W CPU + 30W motherboard + 5W SSD = 100W total

What you actually need is 2x4GB of RAM running at the highest frequency the board supports (like 1866 or 2133 MHz). You need that because of the integrated graphics, and those absolutely crave dual-channel mode. It’ll squeeze out an extra 5-8 FPS, which is huge. Going from 26 FPS to 31 FPS makes it actually playable....that's the secret

Honestly, don't even bother with a case. It’s just one motherboard with everything mounted on it—SSD and power supply sitting right next to it...it'll fit on a desk just fine. Take that money you're saving and buy some high-quality memory instead...that's the smarter move

I'm guessing you aren't exactly thrilled with how the games are running?

You're rocking one ancient stick of RAM? What kind of clock speed are we even talking about here...

What's your budget looking like for an upgrade?

Check out the resolution on that second video... honestly, it looks pretty solid.

Check which BIOS version you're running and don't let the listing trip you up. Where it says N/A under the BIOS column—that last column there—it means those processors won't actually work on your motherboard... It doesn't matter if they listed them at all

Here’s someone playing with that ProCom hardware

How to test if my motherboard is dead? in Hardware ·
It could be a motherboard issue, but more likely you're looking at a power supply failure. Does the CPU fan or anything else spin when you hit the button?

Are any LEDs lighting up? Is the hard drive activity light blinking? Any sound coming from the tower?

If there's absolutely nothing happening, then it's definitely the power supply...

thanks... 🙂the Intel Core i3 is slightly better

crimsonstag84 said:You and that PCMag site again... 🤣 the Intel Core i5 has the same score as the Intel Core i3 🤦

If you're upgrading an LGA 1151 socket, the Intel Core i3 makes sense. The Intel Core i3 is slightly better since it has about 10% better IPC, but it lacks the L3 cache...

Yeah, I see it too. The people over at PCMag just post nonsense. They prioritize price per CPU or energy efficiency, or sometimes they focus on the GPU inside the chip when that doesn't even matter. It's hard to find decent comparisons though. For instance, CPU World is missing the charts, and on http://www.anandtech.com/ they don't even have the 860K listed...

The real question is whether someone plans to drop serious cash on an 8300 one day, or if they'll just jump to something completely new...

Matthew Alvarez said:If you're looking at the $200, an Intel Core i3 makes more sense since the FM2+ platform is basically a dead end anyway. Also, if you can stretch your budget to about $1167, I’d highly recommend doing that. It lets you build everything out right the first time without having to cut corners or struggle with cheap components...

But why bother with an Intel Core i3 when the Intel Core i3 is better?

Here’s my suggestion: if you aren't exactly scraping the bottom of the barrel for cash, go for the Intel Core i5. It’s basically the best CPU you can get for that motherboard. It’ll cost you maybe $50 more, but you probably won't feel the need to upgrade again anytime soon... Plus, it overclocks beautifully to 4GHz and slightly past

Maybe also think about grabbing a better graphics card for just a few extra bucks if you have

Yeah, it’s just weird that it’s only the audio driver... maybe try installing Windows 7, most of the drivers might already be included in there... if not, give the Vista drivers a shot.

What you’ve got is a perfectly solid machine for browsing the web and watching movies. You have plenty of RAM, so just install Windows 7 and you'll be fine... You could even pick up a better processor for about 200-$100 and call it a day... No need to waste $667. If that power supply is 10 years old, though, I’d swap it out for a reliable brand-name one from $100

No drivers for Windows 7?????? That can't be right. It's a Gigabyte board, they always provide great support...

http://www.gigabyte.com/products/pro...px?pid=2607#dl

There are plenty of drivers available for you... My advice is to grab everything while the computer is still running on the current CPU... Grab both the XP drivers and the Windows 7 drivers...

Right now you have 3GB of RAM, but if you upgrade to the 7600 and 4GB of RAM, you'll have to allocate some shared memory for the integrated graphics. Then you'll end up back at 3.5GB, which isn't much more than what you're using now...

I’d just grab a new power supply, a fresh GPU, and the Cooler Master Hyper 212. Maybe bump up the multiplier on that Intel Core i7-2600K if it's unlocked, and that should probably do the trick... I think it would run pretty solid like that... and if things start acting up down the road, then I'll just look into a new processor
With the AMD build crimsonstag84 suggested, you're looking at a much better Quad Core total, superior graphics, and a hard drive that’s twice as large—which really matters. Plus, you get double the memory with 8GB of DDR3...

If you have a home stereo or a soundbar, you can just hook the computer up via an audio cable to fix the speaker issue. And of course, you can always pick up some decent speakers later for $22 or $117 once you've got the cash...

I personally wouldn't overlook a solid, well-balanced PC build just because of a lack of speakers.
Here’s how the Intel Celeron G1840 stacks up against the AMD A8 x4 7600 processor... basically, the AMD wins out overall here...

http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Celero...vs-AMD-A8-7600
Regarding the 4G upgrade, we're all on tablets now 🙂 .....and if I may point out, you haven't even upgraded your own Intel Celeron yet

For $67, you get a great Quad Core total processor with decent integrated graphics and 8GB of RAM

If you feel the computer is getting too loud, just swap the CPU cooler for $25 something like this

And the problem is solved

If you need speakers, just pick some cheap ones. You won't miss out with Genius, anything up to $33 is fine... Logitech is also good

To watch TV or cable, you'll need something like this

Here’s how your CPU stacks up against the G1820, which is roughly $117

The motherboard is about $123

For 8GB of DDR3 memory, look at $117

Just add an SSD and toss everything into that old case with the HDD, DVD drive, and power supply...

You didn't mention which motherboard you're running or what kind of budget we're looking at here...

If you can find some cheap DDR2 lying around, I guess grab the RAM, and an SSD might be a nice little bonus... though I doubt the board even has SATA III ports. Still, even on SATA II, it should feel snappier than a standard hard drive.

The real move would be dropping a beefier processor into that board. It probably won't cost much on the used market, but we definitely need the model name first...
