1. That link in your signature isn't working 😁—you're basically misleading everyone on this whole forum 😬 (unless I guess your definition of "100% functional" is a bit different from mine 🙂)

2. Honestly, you shouldn't really be asking stuff like that out loud; maybe just send a private message instead... 😁

Could you please explain what makes these actually better than just a standard version of Windows XP?
I’m currently running a dual boot setup with Windows Vista and Media Center. I have to say, I notice some slight improvements when using Media Center compared to Windows XP, though it seems like those perks are mostly limited to multimedia stuff.
I guess a product key is supposed to...

The fun starts right from the moment you begin the installation, and honestly, I feel like it just keeps going from there... 😁
1. So, I've finally started getting everything ready for my setup. It’s coming along, I guess! I'm just tinkering around with things at the moment, trying to get the layout exactly how I want it. Maybe I'll have it all finished by the weekend, but we'll see. Just taking it one step at a time.
2. The default desktop setup.
3. Windows Loading Screen 4.
4. I was just thinking about that old Windows Shutting down Screen 5. Autoplay Menu 6. Menu 1. It’s funny how much those little things stick with you, isn't it? I guess I spent way too many hours staring at it back in the day. Maybe it was just the anticipation of finally being done for the day, or maybe I just liked the aesthetic. Either way, it's a bit of a trip down memory lane.
5. Autoplay Menu
6. Menu 1 It looks like you might have hit send a little too early! I wasn't quite sure what you were going to say there. If you have a question or just want to chat about some old software, feel free to drop it whenever you're ready. I'm around! Menu 2
It’s got all the latest driver packages included...
It honestly uses way fewer resources than the "standard" versions because they’ve stripped out a bunch of useless junk. I guess they disabled some random background stuff, though to be honest, I have no clue exactly which parts they cut out. 😁Honestly, I don't really feel like anything is missing. Everything seems to be running just fine, so I guess those extra bits that were turned off are probably just stuff I don't actually need anyway.
9. Font packs (probably around a million different fonts out there)
10. Manually disabling the nonsense 1, Manually disabling the nonsense 2 It looks like you only sent the letter "i". I'm not quite sure what you were trying to say there! If you meant to ask a question or share something about Windows XP, just let me know. I'm happy to chat whenever you're ready. Manually turning off the nonsense 3 😁

I'm using them myself, though I've only ever gotten around to the 6 version. I actually downloaded the 14 one too, but I just haven't had the spare time to sit down and install it. Maybe once I run into a real headache—you know, something involving a full C: drive format—then I'll finally go ahead and set up the 14 version (or maybe some newer edition if one comes out before then). I might even hunt down cmicmi's Windows XP SP3 Custom Hack 👍
on my hard drive somewhere. Yeah, you're definitely going to need a product key!

It's just how things are, I guess, so I don't see why people make such a big deal out of it. Plus, I don't really see a problem with software being in English instead of American English. It's not like someone who has never even opened Word, for instance, is going to find it easier if the menus are translated. They won't; it’s all the same to them. 🤷

As for why programs that already have American English menus are still bad, it's probably just laziness on both sides. To be honest, it kind of surprises me that people can't manage a precise translation from English. 🙄

I get where you're coming from, but still... We're a relatively small group, and we shouldn't let our language just fade away!
And I actually don't think it's true that people won't find it easier if the menus are in American English (I'm being specific when I say menu instead of interface, or file instead of file 😁) — looking at some people who know the basics of using Word and stuff, once I switched their menus to American English, they actually found it way easier to navigate and find editing tools than before.
I agree with pretty much everything else you wrote! I use the word "email" instead of "electronic mail" and things like that, but I feel like there are just too many foreign loanwords in our language that we could easily swap for shorter, native American words!
Gerald Roberts7 said:here is what the DivX subtitle stats actually look like:
American English 17139
American English 15967
Canadian 1738
.

I just wanted to jump in here and add something—unfortunately, a ton of people download an American English translation and just label it as the local version, so I guess these stats aren't even totally accurate!
I actually have this little script I use that converts certain translations into better ones, so I think I know what I'm talking about. It’s just how things are, I guess!
Maybe I went a bit overboard when I said we Americans were lazy, but I get the feeling that whenever a new movie drops or a new episode comes out, I always run into the other version first, and then eventually find the corrected one (which is usually just a fixed version of the first one anyway)!

Of course, none of this really matters for this silly thread since the person who started it doesn't seem to know what they're actually trying to say!!! 👎👎
urbanotter4 said:I mean, why would anyone even bother using software with an American interface? Honestly, I just can't navigate stuff like that. I pretty much switch everything back to English by default and call it a day. 🙂

Man, I guess we really should try to keep our own language alive, though!
Nathan Castillo86 said:Alright, so now you gotta explain how to actually translate a program, please.

Gerald Roberts7 said:Are you actually being dense, or just naturally this way? I don't see what Americans have to do with translating this into English. If you're going to brag about how much "knowledge" you have regarding English, maybe just find a .txt file and actually do a decent job translating it. It’s kind of depressing if most Americans think like you do. Seriously. 😲

I'm guessing you weren't exactly out there fighting for the country either, since you probably weren't even born yet back then.

Man. What a guy. 🙏

I'M WITH YOU ON THIS!!! 👍
copperseal24 said:It’s pretty obvious that American "hackers" are just totally clueless when it comes to localizing software for the US. Take Nero 8, for example. It has all sorts of languages, but nothing specifically American. I mean, come on, even tiny little countries have their own language options in these programs!

I don't think that's quite right! I guess Americans can be a bit spoiled and just want everything handed to them on a silver platter. Just look at movie subtitles—most of them are translated from other dialects or foreign versions. Why? Because someone else does the work, and we just grab it because we understand it. Why bother putting in the effort to make an American version when we can just use what's available?!!

copperseal24 said:So, I'm asking you, ladies and gentlemen, please do something about this! WE CAN'T LET OTHER COUNTRIES GET AHEAD OF US IN TECH SKILLS!!!!👎👎👎👎👎👎

What I wrote above actually just proves your point! You didn't say you were going to step up and change things; you basically said you want everyone else to do the hard work so you can finally have an American translation! 👎

Just to be clear, I get frustrated too—whether it's movie subtitles being off or foreign languages in software, blah blah...
I've actually translated a few programs myself for my friends and me to use internally, and some of those are even online now with integrated American language support. (One was an antimalware tool, one was a RAM utility, and one was something like CCleaner). I even got a license from the manufacturer for the antimalware and RAM tools.
I started translating Ad-Aware too (got through maybe 10% of it), but I eventually gave up because I just don't have the time anymore.
I also worked on fixing subtitles for Prison Break—basically correcting them to sound more American—and I offered them to people on an American subtitle site, telling them to swap out the old ones for mine. But nobody ever reached out, so I guess those old subtitles are still floating around...

Man, if you really want to see changes happen, then go for it!!! Get moving!!!
AutoCAD 2009 help needed in Software ·
wiredorca3 said:Does anyone happen to have a link to a tutorial or maybe just some study material for this software? I'm a total newbie when it comes to AutoCAD in general, and honestly, I've never even touched the older versions before.

You might want to track down some older libraries for those legacy versions—there’s even some stuff out there for AutoCAD 2008! It’s not like there's a massive gap between them, though. From what I can tell, the biggest change between the older builds and the 2009 version is really just the user interface.
Dealing with static electricity shocks? in Health ·
I’m sure everyone has been there—you touch something and suddenly get zapped by static electricity. For me, though, this has been happening almost every single day for the last two or three months, and it’s getting stronger and more uncomfortable by the day...
It all started a few months back when I'd touch a radiator or a car door. It even happened when I went to kiss my wife. At first, we actually thought it was kind of funny, joking that the sparks were proof there's still plenty of chemistry between us 😁 , but it’s turned into this really unpleasant, almost painful sensation on my lips, her lips, or her cheek 😢 ... It happens when she tries to kiss me, too. I should mention it doesn't happen every single time we touch, but it happens enough to be a problem... And honestly, it isn't just about kissing; it can happen with any kind of contact
. One time, I went to scratch my dog behind the ears and gave him such a shock that the poor guy actually avoided me for two days whenever I reached out! He probably thought I was trying to hurt him again 😢 !
It’s also happened a few times when I’ve gone to turn on my computer, and today it really crossed the line. I went to hit the power button and got a massive zap; a bluish-yellow spark (kind of like what you see when lighting a lighter or a gas stove) jumped from the button to my finger 😠 , maybe a millimeter wide, and my right index finger and thumb felt numb for a couple of minutes afterward... It was a total disaster, both the initial shock and that lingering, nasty feeling
. So, my questions are: what on earth is going on with me, and how do I make this stop?

If you happen to know a few codes and you're using Time Reuters, I guess you don't really have to sit around waiting those full 60 minutes! 🙂

I didn't actually unpack the file, I just took a quick look inside the RARed one! Besides, it usually catches any infected files anyway since I turned that setting on!
Anyway, if you don't mind me asking—did you create these viruses yourself, or what...?
