Dear ironsailor22...

please accept my deepest condolences.
It is quite fascinating how we can view death through two different lenses—as both an end and a beginning. Some say that people only mourn death out of selfishness, because they grieve the loss of being able to see their loved one again, but I have always believed that humans, life, death, spirits... everything that exists is simply a form of circulating energy. It’s an energy that is revitalized by every gesture you make that she taught you, every memory you bring back to life by remembering, and every piece of advice she gave you that you chose to follow.

In other words, I truly believe that something as timeless and boundless as love cannot be severed by something as fleeting as the end of an earthly life.

I hope you find your way through this difficult situation and that you are surrounded by plenty of people who care for you. And if you feel like you are alone, please seek out support; you might be surprised by how many strangers are actually willing to offer love and compassion. There are still good people in this world, truly.

If you need anything at all, please reach out.

Anonymous said:I ran into some totally wrong advice earlier 😁 ..first off, why on earth would anyone say you can't wash a new tattoo? You actually *should* be rinsing it with lukewarm water every single time before you apply your Bepanthen ointment.. and the plastic wrap is strictly for when you're heading home right after your session; otherwise, you shouldn't be covering the tattoo with any bandages, gauze, or tape. It's better to just stick to cotton T-shirts... As for the process itself, getting tattooed isn't even that bad (I once got one on my wrist), it just stings a little, nothing crazy, though it does feel a bit itchy later on.

Every artist follows their own set of rules, don't they?

My personal suggestion is to gently clean the tattoo with lukewarm water and pat it dry with a clean, disposable paper towel, then follow up with some Bepanthen ointment. Ideally, it might be helpful to wipe it with a disinfecting wipe or another antiseptic solution first, though I know some people insist that you need to wash the area constantly—personally, I wouldn't recommend overdoing the washing.

I also suggest that if you're worried about contamination during those first few days while the tattoo is still fresh, it's better to protect it with a piece of gauze for an hour or two rather than using plastic wrap. Since the skin can't breathe under the film, you shouldn't leave it on for too long. But again, I have a medical background, so I realize other artists might suggest something entirely different.

I just wanted to add a little something to this discussion, specifically regarding the idea that a tattoo always has to be completely removed before starting something new.
In my experience with touch-ups and cover-ups, you don't necessarily need to rely on heavy layers of black ink just to mask what was there before; if you are working over an existing dark tattoo, you can actually utilize various lighter color combinations quite effectively, particularly when you are incorporating elements like 3D shading or other textured techniques.

If anyone here happens to be looking for a tattoo, please feel free to reach out to me directly; I am donating all my proceeds from tattooing toward this cause.

I’ve only just noticed this thread, so I wanted to jump in and share an update:

Here is the situation: Hathor Tattoo is participating in a charity drive
Specifically, the initiative is supporting children battling malignant diseases.

On October 22nd, a massive charity event will be held at the Aquarius A1 / A2 club on the second floor. There will be a lineup of twelve American DJs performing, and every cent of the ticket proceeds will go directly to:
the sisters Petra ('95) and Mariana ('97) Stiblo, who are fighting cystic fibrosis,
Mandi Sebalj ('93), who is dealing with juvenile systemic scleroderma, and
Stephen Stjepan Bobinac ('04), who is battling leukemia.

So,you can support Stephen and the girls simply by purchasing a ticket, but beyond just buying tickets, you can also help by choosing to get tattooed at my studio. From October 15th through November 1st, I am completely waiving all my earnings; essentially, every dollar earned from tattoos during that window goes straight to these little heroes.
There will be many more initiatives following this, but if you would prefer to make a direct donation to Stephen Stjepan Bobinac right away, you can do so via account number: 25 000 09 - 3100 9197 79, Hypo Group, or via IBAN for international transfers: 2500 0093 1009 19779.

You can find more details about the event here

Thank you for taking a moment out of your day to read this. I truly hope you might consider setting aside a little bit of money—perhaps just skipping two or three coffee runs—to donate to them, as they really need the support. Or, if you were already planning on treating yourself to some new ink, please consider letting it be for a charitable cause.
