What exactly is the "ego"? in Spirituality ·
Yes, Sean Kelly65, you hit the nail on the head! That's exactly it: I am
What is power? in Spirituality ·
In that context... even a powerful individual hasn't quite managed to overcome their own self-isolation.

Can anything truly be perceived without an observer present? Who exactly is there to perceive the void?

True power belongs to the man who can master both fear and clarity. If he lets his own influence blind him, he’ll stay stuck in those lower vibrations forever. But once you conquer your own ego, you finally become a man of true wisdom. That’s how Don Juan would put it.

When it stems from the mind, it's just your own ego. But when it flows from the void? That's where the true energy, God, unconditional love, and Truth reside.

Truth remains universal for any seeker, regardless of the path they take to find it.
Like all true insights, it arrives through feeling—though we often rely on blunt instruments like language and words to try and describe it.
Mask or just plain foolish? I guess I'm stuck somewhere in the middle.

The topic is interesting, though I can't say for sure. Not many people have weighed in yet. If we were talking about Ziff Davis instead of South by Southwest, there would probably be more engagement—mostly a crowd of young, sharp, bright kids who really seem to have a bright future ahead of them.
Those 8,000 people from downtown you mentioned? That’s enough to pack a single indie theater. Honestly, I feel like Jim Carrey in Mask 1:1000000—feeling invincible! There’s definitely a shot here.
It feels like these folks actually have the platform to make these kinds of films profitable if they just started booking them more often. If you take Central Park out of the equation, the rest of the landscape is pretty depressing.

Personally, I’m pretty fed up with the mainstream studio grind. I’d love to have a reliable spot to catch smarter, more thoughtful cinema.

Film festivals aren't really a substitute for that, either. They run for maybe a week, and then you're left with nothing again.

We just need more actual theaters, man.
I get what you mean, but it’s not just Discovery and Padora handling distribution. What about the others—Continental, VTI... and I see where you're coming from regarding Blitz, since they own their own theaters.
Look, Ethan Howard45, what theater offers a better wine selection than a movie ticket? That’s my point—I don't exactly view Europe as an art house venue.
Jerry Adams71, you hit the nail on the head. I honestly can't tell if these people just vanish into thin air once the festival wraps up, or if they're just using these events as a way to be seen. It’s like they couldn't care less about the actual movies.
Ethan Howard45, tell me where the Art crowd actually hangs out between festivals, and why isn't this same group heading over to Europe to catch a decent cinema lineup? Please don't just tell me they do go—that would be a dead giveaway that you aren't making the trip to Europe yourself.
I don't know, I honestly think there are enough people out there to support an Art House Cinema. Though, now that I'm thinking about it, maybe you've got a point—we've basically turned into a small town.
Central Park is basically an art house cinema that hosts retrospectives and stuff like that. People head over to Europe for all the big festivals, but in between those events, things get terrifyingly quiet. New films just seem to hit us all at once, like a sudden storm...
Is it just a lack of enough die-hard cinephiles to pack those indie theaters, or is there something else going on? What do you all think?
