I once had a thought regarding Rom people, dogs, and an American restaurant, though I find myself hesitating because I wouldn't want to cause any offense ☕

Who actually believed that Charles Roberts33's insults would just slide by without someone pushing back? They were sorely mistaken ☕

The dog was absolutely livid; perhaps they went and canceled his reservation at the restaurant.

That’s essentially where we’ve landed, my friend; once the formidable leader Charles Roberts33, I find myself sitting alone in the dim light of my room, picking at half a rotisserie chicken from Walmart, while all those self-proclaimed liberals and progressives flock to his favorite local bistro—a place they’ve recently pressured into becoming pet-friendly through some sort of Masonic maneuvering.

I’m curious—what exactly did you decide was an "attack" in my argument that prompted you to build this whole defense around it? 🤔 Your entire tone is hyper-defensive. The moment anyone disagrees with you—not just here, but in basically every single thread you've ever touched—you snap.

Regardless of how the debate is going, it’s never enough for you if the other person is simply wrong. They have to be stupid, brainwashed, uninformed, corrupt, or malicious too. You refuse to even consider why someone might see things differently. But hey, you're certainly not the only over-sensitive person on this board.

Look, since you somehow managed to misread my words as "low-class American provincialism" and proceeded to build an entire tower of resentment based on the idea that I was labeling you as backward or unrefined, it really wasn't that difficult to deduce exactly where things went sideways.

Am I being too aggressive? My apologies, snowflakes; I’ll be sure to tread more lightly from here on out. Though, critics might argue that it’s hardly surprising someone comes across as overbearing when their interlocutor starts hallucinating insults and attacks that simply aren't there.

You’ve been spending far too much time on Prem lately; it seems you're slowly adopting their limp, colorless way of speaking. ☕

You’re doing exactly what you accuse me of doing—attributing all sorts of motives to me that have absolutely nothing to do with the actual debate, all based on your own delusion that I labeled everyone from the "West" as primitive. It’s either this, or it's something else entirely.

And wasn't I, if anything, quite explicit in what I wrote?

brightpilot6 said:At the end of the day, everything really boils down to the individual—their upbringing and their level of social intelligence. Someone who constantly irritates everyone else through sheer clumsiness, shouting in public spaces, littering, letting their kids run wild, or parking illegally is likely going to treat their dog with that same lack of consideration. They won't keep it on a leash, they'll tolerate its unruly behavior or let it crowd strangers, and they won't bother buying decent food for it. Dog owners who fall into this category of inconsiderate people aren't any worse than reckless drivers or negligent parents.

It’s simply another symptom of the ongoing decay of our established social norms.

I can see most of the arguments, though I must admit I don't quite grasp why so many of you find the presence of a dog in a dining area to be such a hygienic catastrophe. It isn't exactly licking your steak, is it? Honestly, a waiter exhaling onto your food while carrying it to the table presents a far greater health risk. But, whatever.

At no point have I suggested to anyone that they are being dim-witted, narrow-minded, uninformed, or morally corrupt simply because they don't want a dog in a restaurant, or because they have certain grievances regarding the behavior of some rather ill-mannered pet owners.

But you’ve already decided that’s who I am, haven't you? You’ve locked that idea in your head, effectively confirming your own bias, so you can just go ahead and deal with him however you like.

And along the way, I suppose I’ve become the most hardcore debater on this forum—fitting perfectly into the stereotypical image of a corrupt, dim-witted leftist (what kind of logic is 🙏 anyway?) who is immediately and pejoratively labeled as progressive, liberal, a supporter of every niche social cause, and a fan of the 🤣
vegan lifestyle.

And finally—the point of that ironic post which seems to have upset you so much wasn't to call you a primitive; it was simply my wonder at why an average American (which is basically what we all are here on Offside Chat) would be so bothered by this specific, relatively minor issue. Out of all the possible and widespread displays of malice and rudeness one might encounter in our country, why does this particular thing—people with dogs in general, and especially dogs in restaurants—trigger such a reaction? I don't recall any other topic sparking such intense rants from so many different people. Selfish drivers, cyclists, e-scooter riders, pedestrians, loudmouths in public spaces, thieves, cheaters, liars, annoying neighbors... you name it. Nothing else has ever managed to pull together such a diverse yet unified coalition of outrage. There you have it. Whatever.

How are you supposed to deal with a group that treats the word "vulgar" like a personal assault? You can't. There's really no way to win.

The only thing left to do is keep a record of those who have made themselves notorious. Paul Martinez73, Charles Roberts33, Justin James10, and Noah Roberts46. While most of them don't particularly surprise me, there is one among them that truly leaves me wondering. ☕

ironpanther5 said:Wait, so now a populist is someone who promises layoffs and fiscal responsibility in the finance sector?!
Are we really talking about this in a country where political cronyism is practically a national pastime? Where is everyone acting all outraged over the poor school staff or the workers at the local shipyard? If someone is only appealing to maybe ten percent of the voters, they aren't a populist.

Give me a break. Seriously. And who exactly do you think was responsible for bringing in all those legal frameworks and collective bargaining agreements that are basically killing the environment?!

Immediate cuts. Massive reforms. You’ve elegantly ignored all the adjectives there. I didn't even mention fiscal responsibility myself—I'm not sure why you're imputing that to me, as it's a necessity and the absolute bare minimum.

Of course, we have to cut costs and implement reforms, but anyone claiming they can do it both rapidly and profoundly either has no idea what they're talking about or is lying through their teeth.

Making progress through small steps, with the occasional step backward, is really the best we can hope for. That is simply the reality of the situation.

Joseph Clark37 said:Trying to deny the criticism that Tomasevic isn't fit to be the deputy mayor by attacking my character and social involvement is a textbook ad hominem. But fine, let it go. It's too late now, and I should get some sleep. Tomorrow morning, just take your dog for a light walk to the local diner before work—and don't forget his little sweater. It gets chilly in the mornings. Goodnight...☕

Not quite. An ad hominem would be if I claimed his opinion was worthless simply because he’s an idiot. Instead, I merely asked him what his own metrics for political and social utility are, given his stance that Tomasevic is just someone who couldn't care less. I then asked him to justify that view by comparing himself to some anonymous internet commenter who—by his own admission—has zero interest in social engagement (which is perfectly legitimate and fair).

If he had called such an internet commenter a useless amoeba, then fine, we could argue that Tomasevic might be a non-entity on that same scale.

Charles Roberts33 said:Well, bravo, genius. That was the only thing missing. So, according to you, anyone who doesn't care for your dogs—or fails to grasp the sheer, blissful privilege of being in their esteemed company—is nothing more than some uncultured lowlife from the backwaters. Bravo, truly. Round of applause for that one.

Good grief. It’s truly a gift, isn't it? To walk into every single debate with this desperate need to prove you're the most stubborn person in the room—ready to take shots at anyone who dares disagree—while being completely incapable of actually listening to a word they say. That kind of selective hearing is quite a talent.

Just so you know, "vulgaris" in Latin doesn't mean primitive; it means common, ordinary, or everyday. I'll just assume this entire rant is the direct result of that little misunderstanding.

Delusion, unfortunately, isn't really a form of critique; it’s more of a state of mourning.

Joseph Clark37 said:Going straight for the ad hominem. People are attacking dogs, so you get worked up. And now Real Madrid blew the win too. Makes sense...☕

It seems you don't quite grasp the definition of "argumentum ad hominem." Perhaps a little more reading wouldn't hurt. ☕

Oh, give me a break. These gentlemen walk into restaurants and find themselves unable to enjoy their meal because of some dogs. And apparently, there's no one to turn to for a bit of sympathy.

😂

Honestly, I thought this was all just a bit of a joke, but clearly, I was mistaken.

It wouldn’t be much of an argument if, in a city like New York, at least three-quarters of the high-end establishments strictly prohibited dogs from entering. Instead, most places only allow small breeds, and usually only on the outdoor patios. And in most of those spots, you’ll see some unruly pup causing chaos regardless. It's hardly a crisis. But for our gourmet gentlemen over at Offside Chat—who, by the way, were eyeing a lunch at the Esplanada but are now too terrified they might catch a glimpse of a canine—it's apparently a tragedy.🙏

Go ahead and write to pisati plav kamenica; this is a topic that finally deserves some real discussion.

Justin James10 said:Is there anything more exhausting than this constant suffering? It feels like we're just being pushed to our limits, and for what? Is that really the point? Honestly, you all can deal with it however you want—can you even handle it? This is nothing short of pure terror, basically ISIS for people who aren't quite living in poverty.

Does anyone else feel like our city just can't catch a break when it comes to mayors? It feels like we’re stuck in a loop. Now that we might finally see the end of the current administration, the leading candidates look like a total joke. On one hand, you've got that windbag from the philosophy department, and on the other, there's that loudmouth Maras. Honestly, is there anyone actually sane left in the running? 🤦

If Tomasevic is the only consistent, genuine, and effective opposition to Bandic and his criminal "nonsense," then how do you justify your own logic? By your own standards—where any level of social activism or fighting crime is dismissed as mere forum trash—where exactly do you place yourself on that little scale of yours?
Offside Chat Archives (2014-2021) in Soccer ·
He might not be the most brilliant mind on the planet, but if we're looking at the contenders for the top spot in the city, he’s certainly the one with the cleanest intentions.

And honestly, if anyone is actually going to embrace Hrebakov’s approach to transparency, it’ll be him.

In a place like this, a populist is basically anyone promising instant fixes, mass layoffs, or sweeping structural reforms. Given the actual state of affairs and the legal constraints we're working under, those things are simply impossible to pull off. This isn't some small town in the Midwest or a tiny rural county.

Paul Sanders5 said:Caught a bit of the Sunday afternoon news at two. Man, I seriously can't stand this kind of demagoguery; it takes me right back to those protests against the construction over on Cvjetan. Instead of getting a real leader like Hrebar, we're gonna end up stuck with these absolute windbags.

I think I have to tell you that you're completely off base here. If someone spends years upon years digging in the trenches, fighting the good fight—and against some truly serious criminals at that—without selling out, talking nonsense, or making empty promises, then that is exactly what Tomasevic is.

But sure, go ahead and take everything you heard from Nu2 as gospel. You're just like the rest of us, aren't you?

What is the point of having a dog in a restaurant anyway? 🙂 the poor thing is clearly suffering 🙂

Could someone please explain to me why a dog seems to struggle more just lying there in a restaurant than they do when they're relaxing at home? I’m genuinely looking for some enlightenment here. 🙏🙏

What kind of nonsense is this?

Immediately, Paul Martinez73 and Charles Roberts33 were up on their feet, ready to debate. I suppose I’m aiming for Wilhelm Tell levels of precision here. ☕

I’m honestly starting to wonder if some people actually take "dog in a restaurant" literally—do they imagine a canine perched on a chair using silverware, or am I just overthinking it? 🤔

Then again, I highly doubt half of them have ever ventured further than a local roadside BBQ shack, where chairs aren't even an afterthought, let alone a luxury. ☕

In any case, I’m just relieved we’ve finally addressed this burning crisis of decadent Western civilization, a topic that clearly weighs so heavily on the average American.

My apologies to anyone among them who doesn't fit that particular description. ☕

I have to agree, those Germans just aren't built like us—or at least, they don't possess that same grit you find in true Americans. Is it any wonder we manage to outclass them across almost every arena?

By the looks of it, all sorts of various traumas involving dogs seem to be the most widespread obsession on the Offside Chat 🤣
