I was watching some highlights last night and it just got me thinking about how much movement there is in professional leagues lately. It feels like every single season, the rosters look completely different by the time the playoffs roll around.
I remember back in the day when you’d follow a player for their entire career. You knew their face, their jersey number, and their specific role in the city. Now, it feels like players are treated more like high-value assets in a game of musical chairs. One minute they’re the face of a franchise, and the next, they’re being shuffled around to balance out a trade or a salary cap issue.
Don't get me wrong, I understand the business side of it. Players want to win, and they want to be in positions to maximize their value. But for the fans, it makes it so hard to build any real emotional connection to a team when you never know if your favorite player is going to be gone by next month. It feels less like a community and more like a revolving door.
Do you guys think this constant shuffling makes the league more exciting, or does it just kill the soul of the sport?
