Vocal cord surgery in Health ·

I’m hoping my doctor uses laser technology for this here at Dbk 🙂
A few days—how many days exactly? 😁

That is definitely something you’ll need to clear with your surgeon...🙄

Sean Wilson40 said:I have surgery scheduled in a couple of days to remove a vocal cord polip. I am wondering how long I should hold off on swimming at the pool, considering both the anesthesia and the procedure itself?

That really depends on the surgeon's specific technique and how they approach the procedure. Personally, I'd highly recommend opting for laser removal if it's an option! If everything goes smoothly according to plan, you'll likely just spend one night at the hospital, and you could potentially get back into the pool in just a couple of days.👍
James Ruiz84 said:Hey, can someone please tell me what might be causing this pain in this area:

I don't even have tonsils anymore—had them out back when I was a kid—but there's this swelling right under my jawline, like some kind of gland or a tiny lump...😢 and man, it hurts. I feel stupid even thinking about hitting up the ER for something like this. It happened once before and went away fast, but today it's been killing me all day, and the pain is even shooting down toward my neck.
Does anyone have any clue what this could be?? 😢

Allow me to chime in here as well...
This doesn't sound like lymphadenopathy triggered by a herpes outbreak; in fact, it seems to be the exact opposite...
The area you described is precisely where the parotid salivary gland is located, and based on everything you've mentioned, it sounds like an inflammation of that gland. In this case, the herpes (as is often the case) likely flared up because of that inflammation—essentially a result of the physical stress and the dip in your immune system.
What should your next steps be?
Nothing life-threatening is going to happen if you simply wait until Monday...
If you notice the swelling starting to subside, you might not even need to see a doctor. However, if it persists or—heaven forbid—gets worse, you will likely need a prescription for antibiotics.👍
Bump on my lower lip in Health ·
Thomas Young said:Hello,

About a month ago, I noticed a small lump on my lower lip. It isn’t painful, it hasn't bled, and it doesn't seem to be growing. It is just slightly darker than the rest of my lip and is covered by a whitish mucous membrane. It feels quite firm to the touch and is sensitive—especially when I drink hot tea, for instance—but there is no actual pain.

I am 21 years old. I smoked for about three years, but I successfully quit a few months ago. I have an appointment scheduled with my doctor this week, but I would still love to hear your thoughts. Thanks! (:

I certainly don't want to alarm you, but looking at this photo, it seems like something that definitely needs a professional examination at the very least, and potentially surgical removal later on...
When you go in for your checkup, I highly recommend asking for a biopsy of the lesion (that's where they scrape a tiny bit of the surface cells so they can make a proper diagnosis under a microscope). That way, you'll get a much clearer idea of what we are dealing with and what the next steps should be...
Make sure to see an ENT specialist rather than a dermatologist or any other type of practitioner...
