The brutal reality of elite sports in Fans ·
It’s honestly heartbreaking to see someone give their absolute all only to fall just short of the next round. You can train for years, but sometimes the margin between glory and a quick exit is just a fraction of a second. Does anyone else feel like the pressure on individual athletes today is becoming unsustainable?

it can always get worse...

and they're coming from Asia, somewhere near Iran.

Isn't that Italian woman in America with the massive mortadella not actually a real one?

Sandra Ward66 said:Exactly! It’s pretty obvious he isn't just waiting around for some massive masterpiece at the end of his career; he’s picking projects that actually interest him, and he clearly excels at them! Even if a movie is a bit mindless, there's something to be said for doing what you love... and personally, I'll watch him in anything he touches!😁😁

It seems to me that you don't quite grasp how 95% of Hollywood actually films their movies...
Of course, the whole point is to land a role in a high-quality production... I mean, there’s no sense in giving an Oscar-worthy performance in a total piece of garbage. You want to deliver a stellar performance in a stellar film...
Your body of work is definitely going to help you land those big contracts for new movies in your career...
It’s pretty clear if you look at Jim Carrey. He spent his entire career churning out silly comedies, so when he finally pivots and delivers a mind-blowing performance in something like Man on the Moon, nobody takes him seriously enough to even consider him for an Oscar nomination... let alone actually win one, in my opinion...

Jason Statham doesn't just pick and choose projects that actually interest him; he mostly just takes whatever roles he gets through the casting process. He isn't exactly part of that elite 5% of A-list actors who have top-tier scripts landing on their desks every other day with leading man offers...
Like most actors, it all really comes down to casting calls and screen tests... The first thing that popped into my head was how someone like Johnny Depp might have been up for an audition, only to be passed over by the director in favor of a more established legend...

I’ll say it again... he was incredibly lucky that Guy Ritchie penned two standout roles specifically for him—much like how Stallone had Rocky or Luc Besson gave Jean Reno Leon—which effectively launched his career into the stratosphere. I don't look at him like some starstruck teenager swooning over him like he's Brad Pitt (or at least, that's how they view him) following the legend of Autumn; I see him as a genuinely talented actor with an absolutely terrible eye for picking movies...

It feels like Guy Ritchie only wrote those parts specifically for himself...

Everything else is garbage... I agree... even The Italian Job is trash...

David Price5 said:He would make an incredible action star—he certainly proved he has the chops with The Transporter. All he really needs is two or three massive hits, something along the lines of Terminator II or True Lies, to truly cement his status as a top-tier action hero. When you stop to think about it, it feels like we’re running out of genuine action icons...

Action heroes or action stars? Because if we're talking about actual action heroes, there are plenty of them out there... especially now that everything is just flooded with superhero movies based on comic books...
If you ask me, action stars aren't even necessary... 🙂

Sandra Ward66 said:I suppose he actually enjoys acting in those kinds of flicks, and he clearly isn't sweating the details when it comes to building a serious career...

Wait, what? 😕
Is he really settling for such a mediocre career path?

A really enjoyable movie... an interesting story, though I have no idea how much of it is actually factual versus Hollywood embellishment... I’m just certain an American studio would have completely ruined it, just like they do with all those other "based on a true story" plots...

Just... Statham playing a normal role for once.🙂
I don't even consider him a bad actor... (quite the opposite, he's proven himself pretty talented in those Guy Ritchie films...) it's just his absolutely terrible track record when it comes to picking which movies to star in...

Anyway, all in all, it's a good film...
