Reddit anonymity in Feedback & Suggestions ·
I honestly don't get this obsession—this genuine fear—that someone might actually figure out your real name. Honestly, if bluecyclist64 and Grace Wood5 actually bothered to spend five minutes Googling my last fifty posts, they’d probably stumble onto my full name in no time; most people who get too invested in these threads end up exposed anyway. If you don't view a forum as some high-stakes platform and just use it to kill time, it shouldn't be an issue—especially nowadays, when true anonymity is basically a myth since we're all constantly tethered to smartphones and various social media platforms.😵

Because they're absolute garbage.

Dear moderators, let’s be honest—you’ve turned this thread into a bit of a joke. At this rate, the title should probably just be changed to "The Album of the Week That I’ll Personally Write an Essay On."

Instead of this new system where suggestions are sent via private message, you could have actually implemented a rule: if you suggest an album that gets picked but fail to open the discussion thread on time, you lose your right to post here or suggest anything else—or even comment on other Album of the Week threads—for at least three weeks. That would actually show who is genuinely interested in participating and who isn't.

The constant favoritism toward the same small group of users—mods or not—is pointless. Nobody has the time to listen to every single suggestion before the vote happens; regular members already act as the unofficial judges. They can skim through a few tracks, decide if an album is worth their vote or worth discussing, and move on. What’s the point of offering albums today if there wasn't even a dedicated thread for the last one? It wouldn't have taken much effort for the proposer to just drop an AllMusic link and a YouTube playlist to get the conversation started—they certainly had the time.

But hey, that’s just my two cents. This whole setup feels like a "here you go, kids, pick from this poll" kind of vibe. Why bother voting if the person suggesting the music won't even deign to start the actual discussion? People suggest things because they aren't fully familiar with an artist's work, or because they think an album is a masterpiece, or maybe because they dislike a certain genre and want to see what everyone else thinks... Anyway, in my opinion, you've ruined a perfectly good thread.

PS—stop messing around and just show up properly before you head back out. We just finished mourning Mezz, and now you’re looking to take an early retirement from this forum too? Where’s your humanity? 😁

Look, I was simply suggesting an album for you where John " Woody " Mellor is actually doing the singing during that era.😁

It’s enough to say that John Graham Mellor is on vocals.

And here I was—along with Puky—just about to start praising you for being so incredibly active these past few weeks...
I don't know, take it easy for once. Grab a Budweiser, unwind over the weekend, and everything will be fine.
🙂

Kids, stop flattering me.😁 People think hitting a midlife crisis in their thirties is bad—just imagine what happens when you hit it in your fifties...🤔

Lisa Davis46 said:You started this. I can either keep going or just wipe the whole thread clean—your call.

I think this will be the last one... because these posts are honestly pointless.

Go ahead and do whatever you want. Honestly, I think you know me well enough by now to realize there’s no room for actual hatred here—it’s hard to hate a "virtual" person on a forum, much like how I feel about everyone else. And if we're being real, I haven't even thrown a single insult at anyone yet; that’s just not my style. As Amanda Robinson4 was saying, maybe the heat down here in the South has finally gotten to me... I’m going back to my PDF while I try to calm down—if I even can.

I’m moving this over to the chat because you’re clogging up the main feed with pointless arguments. If you need to blow off steam, go ahead and do it there, but let people here actually suggest and listen to the albums they love without all this personal frustration leaking everywhere. There's a specific subforum for venting for a reason.

Talking about "leaking" emotions... how ironic.🤦 Viva placenta!

Dennis Hall41 said:Just because people lack any sense of taste—to the point where they care more about when Šuput’s kid last let one rip than the music itself—doesn't mean YOU should be hunting for a penalty.

But look, if you're truly desperate to get banned here, just say this: "Dennis Hall41, go screw yourself and your stupid Americana," and I'll head over to the FCC and gladly file a formal complaint on your behalf.😁

Easy there, amigo—I won't be doing that. Personally, I love Americana, but even then, context matters. This week, the Master suggested a fantastic album, and naturally, that kind of country or folk music needs to be viewed through a different lens compared to other similar albums from that era.

Lisa Davis46 said:I don't see it—there are plenty of new high-quality recommenders and listeners, the topic is thriving.

And what am I supposed to say to you? Go ahead, push your luck—with or without the fallout. 😁
Besides, why are you even chasing partiality? You can't just stumble into that kind of validation...

Practice some self-control; fast if you feel like fasting. Just post and move on—that's just how life goes.

As for the album threads, the discussion is booming everywhere, starting with you and everyone else. You haven't exactly been some elitist snowflake preaching about "high art" for just two posts. It's hardly a struggle for you to suggest Nica, Doors, or whatever else...

Dennis Hall41 said:The Master and I both called you out—we just prefer Springsteen's vocals over Hope Sandoval's. As an old uncle of mine used to say, "Watch your step, kid, or you might end up tripping over your own feet."😁

You’re puffing your chest out a bit here, but honestly, you’re completely irrelevant to this situation. And regarding Hope—take a look back at those two posts of yours on this thread; they're totally contradictory. It’s clear you're just someone without a backbone who shifts their stance depending on which side is easier to defend. Now, you’ve gone and suggested the most overrated album in history for Album of the Week. You clearly don't have a clue about rock music—you don't even actually like it; you just read reviews and parrot whatever opinion seems easiest to justify. Just leave me out of it.

Lisa Davis46 said:Seriously, are you having one of those days again? I honestly don't get why there's such a struggle with this topic—it's pretty self-explanatory.

If you aren't seeing it, then I have nothing left to say—especially considering the general activity level and the sheer volume of posts in this section of the subforum. What am I supposed to do, chase you or Amanda Robinson4 around just to get some traction? We already agreed to set the petty grievances aside.😁>

Rather than throwing out more suggestions on a thread that honestly lost its point a long time ago, I’d like to ask if someone could just hook me up with some partial PDF music files instead.

It’s a shame you missed the fact that U2 released October that same year.

Lisa Davis46 said:There it is—she finally fixed it. 🙂 Another poll is headed our way soon.

I really love this album—it definitely speaks my language.
I’m keeping my fingers crossed that this actually pulls through...

Thanks.😘
Honestly, I don't really care which album ends up winning. I only just discovered this band today because of The Quarter Proposal, and I have to say—I’m genuinely thrilled to have stumbled upon something new.

Mods, if I could make one quick request—I just noticed I missed the word "that" in the proposed album title. If possible, could we update the poll to show the full title: So Tonight That I Might See? Everything else looks spot on.

Mazzy Star - So Tonight That I Might See (1993)

A dream pop masterpiece—one where, in my estimation, the late David Roback and Hope Sandoval hit their absolute creative stride together. I’ve never been much for over-explaining why certain records resonate, but this one fits perfectly into two distinct moods. In the winter: a dark room, feet propped up near the radiator, watching snowflakes drift under the streetlights while holding a whiskey in one hand and a cigarette in the other. In the summer: feet resting on the balcony railing, a cigarette in hand, a cold beer sitting nearby, just staring up at the stars...

I’d probably put my money on Mazzy Star, Opal, or maybe Rain Parade. Honestly, David Roback deserves at least a mention in this conversation.

Charles Ramos4 said:I’m not sure if I’m making sense, but U2—from their debut album Boy all the way through Achtung Baby—is actually listenable and good, but after that, they just lose me. Sure, there were a few tracks that worked for me (Walk On, for example), but I could count them all on one hand.

For me, that later era following Achtung Baby feels like they were just going through the motions to fulfill contracts—even if they did drop some genuinely great songs along the way, it just isn't the same. It was clearly a mismatch of vision. But hey, what can I say when your favorite hit from their New York City days is "Smelly Cat"😁 by Phoebe Buffay? It kind of reminds me of Stevie Nicks.😉

Just kidding.

Steven Newman50 said:I was actually thinking about suggesting something from R.E.M., but it looks like there are some better experts here 🙂 I also think we should vote on someone suggesting something from U2. I’ve listened to them, sure, but I wouldn't dare lead the conversation on it.

I had something else in mind for this Thursday.

Their Murmur is probably the best debut album of all time. If you suggest that, I’m preemptively giving up on suggesting anything else. Personally, I think "Radio Free Europe" is the best opening track ever released by any band on a first album.

Charles Ramos4 said:I’m talking about U2 after Achtung Baby—because until that album, they were actually decent to my ears. But once they pivoted, they headed in a direction that just doesn't work for me; I can't even bring myself to listen to them anymore. Of course, from a purely commercial standpoint, it looks like they hit a home run by shifting their sound and style, so I suppose it’s a matter of how much my personal taste actually matters here. 😁

Up until that point? Boy, October, War, and wrapping things up with Under a Blood Red Sky—if they had just stopped there, they would easily be ranked among the greatest and most essential rock bands in history.
