I was watching some old highlights last night and it got me thinking about how much pressure is put on teams to just dump everything into a championship run right now. There’s always that tension between keeping your absolute best talent to build a foundation and the logic of moving them while their value is at an all-time high.
It feels like a massive gamble either way. If you hold onto your star, you’re betting the house on the current roster being good enough to actually win something. But if you trade them, you're basically admitting the current year is a wash in exchange for some theoretical future success. I’ve always been a bit of a sucker for the "build for the future" crowd, but man, it’s hard to watch a season slip away when you know you have the pieces to compete.
Do you guys think it’s better to hold onto an ace to stay competitive, or is it smarter to cash in when the market is hot?
