That’s probably not the most productive way to look at the movie...
I mean, part of me was totally drawn into that whole vibe too—but looking at the movie as a whole, I’m starting to think it’s just one big allegory. Like, the point isn't really about fleshing out some "realistic" motivation for the villains—they’re just pure evil, honestly... they're almost incidental. It's the protagonists that actually matter here, though again, not necessarily because they feel like real people you'd meet in Chicago or something, but more like they're just embodiments of specific weaknesses and mental decay...
The murder scene hits hard because it cranks the tension up to eleven—the camera basically stays glued to the victims, almost completely ignoring the killers at the start... It’s gut-wrenching and honestly pretty haunting.

Not at all. There’s zero goodness in this movie—or if you want to look at it that way—whatever is being masked as "normal" actually turns out to be deeply abnormal and... well, self-destructive.
Ugh, honestly, I really liked the movie. One tiny gripe though—the ending feels a bit too telegraphed... between the score and that one line where they basically say "it's going to get even messier" right when that couple shows up at the door... but honestly, that's just being nitpicky...
