I was thinking about sports management today and how much weight we put on a single person's shoulders. We always talk about "the era" of a certain coach or the "rebuilding phase," but I honestly wonder if one person can actually steer a massive ship for a whole decade without things falling apart.
It feels like every time a new leader comes in, there's this massive wave of optimism. We get excited about the new tactics, the new energy, and the potential for a long-term project. But then, life happens. Players age out, interests shift, and the momentum just... dissipates. I’ve seen so many "dynasties" in my lifetime that were basically just a flash in the pan because the leadership couldn't sustain the grind over multiple cycles.
Is it even realistic to expect a single person to hold a vision together through multiple massive tournaments and qualifying stretches? Or are we just setting these guys up for failure by expecting them to be the architect of a decade-long success story?
