I was reading an article on Nasdaq about some guy on X asking his followers which American slang terms they actually like.

It immediately made me think of a few old-school words from back in the days of the former USA that I still find myself using every now and then.

Since we could all use a break from the constant political bickering and endless drama, why don't we take a second to share some words you actually enjoy?

A few come to mind right away:
reverent, wander, harm, grateful, and the word "lovely."

I really love the word 'wicked.' It captures a specific kind of character much more effectively than just calling someone 'naughty,' so I’ve officially added it to my vocabulary. 😁

It’s used in both dialects, though I rarely hear it being thrown around in standard American English.

weirdly eerie

While it technically translates to strange or mysterious—this word "volšeban"—to me, it feels like something much more unsettling than just being mysterious.

It’s actually an import from Russian, though you see it popping up quite a bit in Mexican.

That’s just a linguistic leftover from old slang used in parts of the Midwest, basically meaning someone who's sharp, quick on their feet, and knows how to navigate any situation.

These aren't just words; they are colorful idioms I've picked up right here on the forum. They turn out to be incredibly useful and practical in many different situations. 😁
