Urgent: Need help with my laptop battery!

Dear all, please forgive me if there is already an existing thread covering this topic. I am reaching out because I find myself in need of some technical advice. My laptop battery has started behaving quite erratically; once the charge level hits approximately 55%, the machine simply shuts down without warning. I have to plug it back into the wall, and upon doing so, the system indicates it needs to start the charging process from the very beginning. I have spent some time browsing online for replacements, but I am feeling a bit lost regarding which one to select. My current machine is a Dell Latitude purchased late last September. It uses a Duracell battery rated at 41.6 Wh and 2850 mAh.
I have noticed some similar options available for around $200-$100, but I am hesitant to pull the trigger because I suspect they might have a lower mAh rating than my original.

Since the laptop is only about eighteen months old, the battery ought to be in pretty decent shape; if you haven't been constantly draining it to zero or letting it bake in high heat, those original cells can easily last up to a decade.

It’s usually a good idea to run a calibration once you've hit about 30 discharge cycles.

Hi there, and I really appreciate all the effort you've put into trying to troubleshoot this, but we’re still hitting a wall. Even when the charge drops to about 50% and the system tries to restart the charging cycle, I get a "battery very low" warning, essentially telling me that I need to go out and buy a new battery.
The issue with setting up hibernation is that the charge never actually dips down to that critical 5% or 7% threshold. As I mentioned earlier, it consistently drains down to around the 40-50% mark before anything happens.
I can successfully charge the laptop back up to 100%, though it takes quite a while to reach a full charge, but once it starts draining, it just won't hit that minimum level required to trigger hibernation.

The cells inside one of the battery packs have finally given out, so I'm going to have to pick up a new battery.

I’m leaning toward that conclusion as well, mostly because I can't seem to get the calibration to work. For starters, would an initial capacity of roughly 2200 mAh be considered decent? It’s priced at about $200-$100. Do you think it could actually hold up for six months to a year? I don't really use it for heavy gaming; most of the time, I just jump on occasionally for some nostalgia trips playing Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, and that’s pretty much it.

Honestly, any battery is going to do just fine as long as it's brand new, so your best bet really comes down to what fits your budget and what's actually available on the shelf. If you can swing it, definitely aim for one with a higher mAh rating to get more juice out of it.

The biggest headache is that the battery you're using right now is basically a total loss; based on how things are acting, even the internal electronics have given up the ghost. It's at the point where even taking it to a specialized repair shop—which is usually my go-to move for getting a reliable refresh despite it costing about $133—wouldn't help. You could try to kit it out with a new shell and all, but it’ll still be unreliable and won't give you an accurate reading, much like the one you've got now.
