I've got this one question stuck in my head

If we're calling meat pies "burek," then
it shouldn't be called baklava—it’s clearly just a walnut pastry

Is it a savory pie or a sweet dessert?
Because you can't just lump meat pies and baklava together
And honestly, maybe it's just a cheese pie
What’s your take on this?

Actually, baklava is a bit different from what you might expect.
From the way it's sliced onwards,

But then you have things like apple pie or cherry turnovers.😍

Honestly, I could really go for some chili con carne right about now. It’s just such a solid, comforting meal, isn't it?

ironcobra13 🙂 It’s way too early to be thinking about food. I’ll deal with that tonight. 🕺

From the way it's sliced onward, it's a distinct experience.

But if you're looking for something else, there's apple pie turnovers and cherry hand pies 😍

If meat pies are okay, then
it’s not baklava, it’s a walnut pie.

Whether it's a meat pie or baklava...
you can't call them both meat pies and baklava.
Maybe even cheese pies too.
What do you guys think?

They're all just some kind of pie.

Finally, a thread for "What's on the menu today." Just what I needed. 😍

I'm just hitting some leftover pumpkin lasagna from yesterday and some honeyed kale.

I basically polished off yesterday's leftover pot roast today, and now I’m thinking about whipping up some kind of kale hash for lunch.
Served with some homemade bread, of course.
As for the whole debate over what to call different types of savory pastries—honestly, as long as it actually tastes like the real deal, I really don't care what you label it.
Just please, for the love of all things holy, don't go adding soy or any other weird nonsense into it.

It’s pretty obvious that the core of the issue hasn't actually been settled yet

So, what’s the actual question here?
From where I'm sitting, it looks like you're just playing word games.
A baklava is a baklava, plain and simple.
And meat pie is meat pie. This is an American forum, after all. End of story.
There isn't some grand reason to rename baklava; nobody has ever really questioned its identity before.
The only real debate is whether you should just call it a pie or specify it's a meat pie.

There is zero reason to give baklava a new name when nobody has ever questioned its identity.
The only real debate is whether you specify "meat pie" or just call it "pie."

In Rhode Island, if someone just says "pie," they usually assume it's cheese pie, not meat. 😁

I’d go for a Midwest pastry any day 🙂

It’s basically a cheese turnover loaded with apples, walnuts, and poppy seeds 😵

The king of pastries! ☕

jwiki, I think this might be the first time I’ve ever heard someone claim that in America, if you ask for a burek, they actually mean one filled with cheese.
That’s a pretty wild take, honestly. I guess it’s news to me too.
