Rotator cuff surgery: What to expect?

Where should I go for shoulder surgery—I'm looking at a massive tendon tear. Also, what’s the recovery process actually like?

So, I’m curious about something... Dr. čičak is asking for $25,000 $0.00 for this arthroscopic surgery to fix a torn tendon. Honestly, that much cash is just insane for someone living on a pension. Does anyone actually know where I can get this done without losing an arm and a leg? Or maybe somewhere I could use my Medicare coverage without having to sit around waiting a year or two for the surgery to finally happen?

Salat, Dr. Matek is the one. You should probably book a private consultation at Therapy first just to get an actual appointment on his calendar. He saved my mom's shoulder, and he did the same for my knees.

I have to agree. I've heard from several patients that Dr. Matek is an absolute specialist when it comes to rotator cuff repairs. He’s a solid surgeon across the board, but this specific procedure is his bread and butter—his success rates are top-tier.

I mean, I could probably scrape together enough cash for an appointment somewhere else, too... I’ve heard things about Dr. Matek, but honestly, does he actually take Medicare for this specific surgery, or am I looking at paying out of pocket for that one as well? 25 $0.00not a clue,,,,,,,

If I recall correctly, there is also a discount available for seniors. My advice would be to schedule an appointment for a consultation; explain your specific situation directly to him, and I am certain he will find a way to help. I hold him in the highest regard and feel nothing but profound gratitude for his care. The most critical factor is ensuring you actually get in to see him personally. If you try to go through Salat, you likely won't get seen anytime soon, if at all.

So, I reached out to Dr. Matek’s clinic... they quoted me like $3,500I’ve got an appointment set for the 17th with Dr. Frost, so I guess I'll just roll with that and see what happens... unless I can somehow hawk a kidney on the black market before then...

A few years back, I underwent surgery for a torn rotator cuff—three tendons were completely ruptured, along with some scapular issues. It was performed by Dr. Miškulin at St. Jude's. However, after about two years of just going about my daily life, all those tendon repairs simply gave way under normal movement. I had to go back under the knife with Dr. čičak over at Acromion, and honestly, everything has held up perfectly so far. If I recall correctly, I paid $6.00 out of pocket for that first procedure, while Medicare covered the standard $2.00 for the outpatient stay.

I also saw Miškulin for shoulder subluxation (major instability), way back in 2006 when he was still at Holy Spirit. Almost everything tore during my first round of physical therapy... I was screaming in pain, but I was sixteen, so there wasn't much I could do about it.

Anyway, looks like everyone is recommending Dr. čičak? Asking because I’m planning to go back in, which would obviously be a second surgery on the same shoulder, making things a bit more risky. Too bad I had to wait over a decade, but here we are. 🙂

Hopefully I can get back into sports soon. I've been sitting around long enough... 😁

So, I finally heard back from the folks over at Mayo Clinic... and get this: the earliest they can even get me in for a consultation is November 1st. If I actually wanted to see Dr. Matek himself? I’d be looking at February or March of 2018. And then we're talking another year-long wait just for the actual surgery. Like, are you kidding me? It’s a joke. Though, hey, if I just handed Matek 5,000 bucks in cash, I’d probably jump to the front of the line, no sweat. Seriously though, I should probably ask him if he takes kidneys as payment instead. I've got two, so maybe one would cover the bill...

Dr. Velcro operated on me in 2011, and everything has held up beautifully since then. Sure, my shoulder aches during heavy labor or repetitive motions, but as far as goes, the implants are rock solid.
The only hurdle left is finding the cash.
