Green screen of death

Hey there!
I've run into a bit of a snag...
So, here's the deal...

The main issue is that out of nowhere, my screen just turns solid green. There’s no error message, no sound, nothing at all...
Just a blank green screen and then silence...
I've tried hitting Ctrl+Win+Shift+B to try and reset the graphics driver, which works occasionally, but other times it does absolutely nothing. I've even swapped out a few cables and reset the BIOS, but no luck so far...
I actually just did a fresh install of macOS yesterday (though this was happening even before my previous OS crash), and everything is fully updated. My GPU was behaving fine on the 20.4.2 drivers, and it's still acting up on the latest 20.8.1 versions too...

What's strange is that I used to run into this exact same thing with this same setup back when I was using an RX 470...

Any idea what might be causing this headache?

Are we talking a totally blank green screen, or is there actually some green content visible on it?

Either way, honestly, you might be looking in the wrong place because I’m betting the issue is actually with the monitor itself. It could be anything from a super easy fix to something pretty much impossible... maybe an LVDS cable, a bad connection on the control chip, or even the internal display ribbon cable... but my money is on a loose LVDS connection.

Next time it happens,
1. try giving the back of the monitor a very gentle little tap...
2. If that actually does something, try power cycling it by turning it off and then right back on again.

I tried hitting that keyboard shortcut, Command+Control+Shift+B (you know, the one that resets the graphics driver), and it actually worked for me twice! It would trigger the reset, my graphics card would kick back into gear, and everything would look perfectly normal again for a moment...

The macOS shortcut Ctrl+Shift+Win+B (which basically forces a GPU reset) actually worked for me twice. It would reset the graphics card and everything went back to being totally fine.

Since you’ve already swapped out the GPU and tried different cables, we might be looking at two main culprits here:
1. Motherboard issues messing with the GPU communication. Like, the bus just randomly dumps junk data into the graphics card and freezes the whole thing up.

2. A bad monitor. Honestly? I'd bet on a cold solder joint or some oxidized connectors. I've seen monitors act exactly like this before—they start tinting red or blue and then just go haywire.

3. Maybe something got bumped or shifted with the peripherals or cards on the motherboard. You could try rotating them in the slots and running an auto-detect again.

Basically, throw that monitor onto another PC or a laptop and run it for a few days. If it stays stable, then your motherboard is likely the problem. To narrow it down even more, you could take your current GPU and plug it into a different PC using that same monitor.

It could also be an overheating situation.

If you can still manage to type any basic commands via the keyboard—like hitting restart or something—do it. That'll tell you if the whole system is locked up or if it's strictly a monitor issue. That'd be a huge help.

I just finished installing the 20.4.2 drivers, and honestly, everything seems to be running flawlessly so far!

The only real headache I'm dealing with is Modern Warfare... it keeps crashing with a fatal error about every hour or so I spend playing, and the worst part is that it’s always some massive string of random letters and numbers that changes every single time...

Anyway, I've noticed that my GPU usage is constantly sitting right at the 95-100% mark...
I did a little digging on some international tech forums, and it looks like Nvidia is actually having some issues with this specific behavior too...
