So that explains why I look terrible in certain shots
Holy hell, seriously? That first redhead looks like a completely different person on the left. Her face is way longer and thinner, her nose looks worse, her eyes seem too wide-set, and those lines around her mouth are super deep
Does this whole focal length issue mess with video too, or is it strictly a photo thing?

Damn, what the fuck. That first ginger girl looks totally different on the left. Her face is longer and narrower, her nose is uglier, her eyes are set too far apart and her nasolabial folds are more pronounced
does this same focal length lens thing applies to video as well or just photos?
Yeah, it hits video too. It's the exact same logic as photography. You've got light rays passing through the lens onto a light-sensitive sensor.
Thatβs why in photography, if you're doing portraits, you usually lean toward a 50mm lens (that's the classic standard, though digital specs vary slightly) to keep facial proportions looking "normal."
Plus, you definitely don't want your face right up against the lens. It's basic physicsβthings closer to you look bigger than things further away. It's the same reason why if you take a gym selfie from a high angle, your shoulders end up looking massive. π

Wait, are you actually making a comment about the last photo I shared in this thread? π³ π€£

Thatβs actually pretty interesting. It explains why I think my head looks absolutely perfect when Iβm staring at myself in the bathroom mirror, yet somehow turns into a total potato the second I see a photo of myself. Honestly, itβs just bad cameras and terrible photographers. π

Haha, nah. π€£

Sorry lady, I don't speak Spanish. My Italian is pretty rough, but my Spanish? Absolute garbage. β

Honestly, I'm laughing my head off hereβhow on earth is this the exact same individual?
left = total basement dweller vibes
right = absolute high-fashion icon with perfect structure

Jesse Howard43 said:It's just the lens, the lighting, and some Photoshop work.
Please, cope harder. His bone structure is consistently elite; you aren't going to Photoshop facial bones in every single shot.
This is actually the true reason why heβs viewed as such a subhuman by everyone on the left:
Using a low focal length can absolutely distort anyone's face if the shot is taken too close up.
Try taking a selfie with your front camera from a close distanceβyou'll probably look way worse. Honestly, I look like shit from that angle.

steelorca5 said:Look, manβhis bone structure is just solid. You can't really fake bone structure in every single shot via Photoshop.
The real reason people on the left label him as "subhuman" is actually simpler than that:
If you grab a front-facing selfie from too close a distance, youβre probably going to look way worse than you actually do. Honestly, I look pretty terrible from that angle.
I end up looking a lot like this guy whenever I snap a photo like the one on the leftβbut honestly, itβs more about the lighting than the actual lens. Though, I suppose both play a part. Regarding the Photoshop claims, most of those photos are definitely edited. They just lean into certain facial features to make them pop.

His features probably wouldn't stand out that much in person. I actually know a few male modelsβthey look totally different in photos than they do in real life. Plus, they almost always pull a subtle duckface during shoots, which tends to emphasize certain facial features too.

Jesse Howard43 said:Honestly, I think I look almost exactly like this guy when I'm trying to take a decent photo.
π² In that case, you might actually be the most attractive person in this entire forum.
Jesse Howard43 said:When it comes to Photoshop, I suspect the vast majority of those images have been heavily edited. It seems they mostly use it to exaggerate or sharpen their facial features.
In person, his facial features probably wouldn't stand out nearly as much. I actually know a few male models, and let me tell you, they look like entirely different people in photos compared to how they appear in real life. On top of that, they almost always pull off this subtle, forced pout during shoots, which definitely serves to exaggerate certain features.
Itβs still incredibly obvious when there's actual movement involvedβjust take a look at this video clip. It matches the photo on the right perfectly, and honestly, that's just the raw shot without any duckface or Photoshop tricks.
It might just be the lighting on the runway, but I honestly doubt thatβs the case. He actually looks significantly better here than in that shot on the leftβeven when you consider those daytime runways where the light is way more washed out and weak.
