Hello there.
Lately, I’ve been noticing some rather strange irregularities with my heart rhythm.
The intensity seems to fluctuate quite unexpectedly; there are moments where the beat feels so forceful—even if the actual rate seems steady enough, I suppose—that I can actually hear it and feel the thumping right in my throat.
Earlier today, while I was just lying down, I experienced something entirely new. It felt as though my heart simply stopped for a split second, followed by several rapid-fire palpitations before eventually settling back into its usual rhythm.
It has been quite a few years since I last saw a doctor for a checkup, if I’m being honest—perhaps even longer.
Since I’m relatively young, only twenty, I haven't given much thought to my cardiovascular health. I used to be incredibly active, but I haven't really done any sports for over a year now, and for the last two months, I’ve been even less physically active than I can remember being in my entire life.
I guess I am wondering what might be causing this.
My apologies to the moderators if this topic has already been covered somewhere, but I couldn't seem to find anything relevant on Reddit.
Thanks.

Lately, my heart’s been acting really weird.
The rhythm feels off sometimes—like it's pounding so hard that I can actually hear it and feel the thumping in my throat, even if the actual tempo seems steady enough.
Then today, while I was just lying down, I felt something totally new. It was like my heart just stopped for a split second, then did this rapid-fire fluttering thing before settling back to normal.
It’s been years since I’ve seen a doctor for a checkup—honestly, maybe ever.
I’m pretty young, only twenty, so I never really gave my heart a second thought. I used to be super active, but I haven't done any sports in over a year, and for the last two months, I've been more sedentary than I've ever been in my life.
Does anyone have an idea what might be going on?
Sorry if the mods have already covered this; I couldn't find anything similar on Reddit.
Thanks.

Yeah, check page 2, there's a thread about skipped heartbeats.

It could be a completely insignificant, benign glitch in your heart's electrical system, it could be something seriously life-threatening, or somewhere right in the middle. You should never mess around when it comes to your heart. Go see a doctor and at least get an EKG done—that way you'll actually know what you're dealing with.
