Hey, I need some help here. I just had arthroscopy on both knees (had bits of my meniscus removed on both sides), and my doctor says I really need to strengthen the muscles around my knees. The problem is, the physical therapist at the hospital didn't actually show me any specific exercises to do.
Does anyone have any tips or know where I can find some instructions for exercises I can do at home? I don't have a gym nearby, so I'm kind of stuck.
Thanks!

You’re crazy if you think asking that on a forum is a good idea... anyone and everyone can chime in with their "expert" advice here..

I honestly think you can't go wrong with resistance band workouts when you're just starting out.

Those one or two-pound ankle weights...
Wait, how long has it been since the OP posted?
Shouldn't you be doing physical therapy—like, group sessions where maybe ten of you are working through the same routine while a couple of PTs supervise?
That’s how we did it at the Mayo Clinic—I did those sessions for about 2 (maybe 3?🤔) months total (even though it was for my patella, not the meniscus)... We were a bit more cramped in our space. 😬 But hey, we had enough room to actually get the exercises done...😁

How’s your knee flexibility looking? Did you have to use that machine—you know, the one for knee flexion?
Honestly, I feel like hitting the gym might do more harm than good right now...:/

Thanks for all the input, guys. It’s been just under two months since my arthroscopy. I did some PT, but they basically just sent us a bunch of QR codes for exercises, so I’m thinking there's gotta be better stuff out there than what they showed us at the clinic. That's why I'm asking.

I'm sorry you had such a rough experience. There are definitely better ways to train, especially if you're just looking to stay active, but you really need to keep moving just to prevent future injuries from popping up.
Unfortunately, your best bet is to go see a solid private physical therapist or a specialist.
There are plenty of great options out there, but I wouldn't want to just guess and suggest an exercise right now—it could do more harm than good.

What kind of workouts are you doing lately? Are you hitting up a local gym?
