So, here are my specs:

Intel Core i5 9600K GTX 1070 8GB
Gtx 1070 8gb
16gb 3000hz ram
B450 ds3h motherboard
620 seasonic power supply

I play at 1080p on a 60hz monitor.

It turns out my buddy's rig from $1667 actually runs games like Call of Duty way better than my 8500 setup—it just doesn't make sense... even though we have the exact same graphics settings, he's playing on a 144 hz monitor and getting significantly higher FPS, maybe 30-40 frames more than me. There is absolutely no logic to this—I am quite frustrated and could really use some help...

Nothing makes sense on our end either, since we have zero clue what kind of setup your buddy is running with his $1667 😬

Are you running the same drivers, with Vsync and the FPS limit turned off?

What's actually inside that rig?

Is it a build from $1667 paired with a 144Hz monitor? 😵

This might be pretty similar to the discussion I had with a buddy who was dealing with a nearly identical mess. Only he was running an Intel Core i5 7600K instead of a 2600.

I'm thinking a BIOS update ended up being the fix most of the time.

Indeed, if the BIOS version is outdated, it tends to cause quite a few headaches. Might I ask which specific build of Windows 10 you are currently running? It would be wise to look into process management and automation; perhaps spend some time observing how the system behaves within the Task Manager to get a better sense of what is happening under the hood.

The CPU should be delivering much better FPS, considering your GPU alone is worth somewhere between $3,500 and $1333, if not more. Either he’s running a high-end rig worth $5,000, or you might have missed something in the specs here.

Also, I’m not sure how familiar you are with benchmarking, but there is a massive difference between playing indoors versus being out in the open during an action sequence. To get a fair comparison, they would need to run identical scenes, which isn't really a realistic option with multiplayer games. The only way would be if the game supported replaying the exact same gameplay footage.

Yeah, you can save replays directly to your hard drive through the account settings.
