I’ve been dealing with atrial fibrillation, so my doctor put me on Rytmonorm with varying doses over time. Right now, I’m taking 150 mg three times a day.
In the meantime, my liver enzyme levels have spiked quite a bit, and there's a decent chance this medication is the culprit behind the side effects. The suggestion on the table is to switch over to Aspirin 325 mg
instead. Looking at the fine print for that one, the list of potential side effects actually looks even worse.
Has anyone here had much experience juggling these specific drugs?

Thanks.

I don't have a massive amount of experience with this, but I am currently using it. Look, it isn't some kind of miracle cure—it's not like that—but if you are under the care of a solid specialist who stays on top of regular checkups, things should be just fine.

Look, there’s no sugarcoating it—every medication comes with its own set of potential side effects, which is just one of those unfortunate realities of medicine 🕺

Propafenone can actually take a toll on your liver function.
But honestly? It might also act as a bit of a litmus test, potentially flagging some underlying liver issues that were sitting there undetected before you even started the meds.

Switching up your antiarrhythmic is definitely a solid move, but I'd say it would be pretty smart to get your liver checked out while you're at it. I'm talking maybe an ultrasound, re-running those liver enzyme tests, or even checking hepatitis markers if necessary—just to be safe and get a more complete picture of what's going on.
