I mean, I guess if someone owns a dog that keeps bothering the neighbors, they really should be held accountable, right? Like, maybe the dog itself needs to be detained and interrogated—honestly, you should have just listened to your mother, you loud little thing—and then the owner should probably get thirty days in a jail cell, shared with a convict, just until they finally learn how to actually take care of an animal properly.

They'll probably end up passing some kind of pet tax—honestly, I wouldn't be surprised one bit 😳

under current laws they don't even have 😳

What we actually need is a tax that goes straight to the neighbors ☕

I mean, imagine if you had neighbors throwing massive ragers every single night ☕

look, you've got a dog that's just a barker by nature—well-loved, pampered, whatever—but still a loudmouth.
my buddy even shelled out for professional training for hers. she had this huge, sweet dog, but man, was it noisy.
even after all that training, the damn thing kept barking 😳
so what was she supposed to do? choke it out? 🤷

Man, I don't even know how to make this any clearer.
If a dog is a barker, they shouldn't be living in an apartment where the neighbors will lose their minds. Apartments and houses are built for people first, then animals if they can actually handle the lifestyle. If they can't, then maybe they should move, not the neighbors.

It’s like living next to people who throw ragers every single night☕

Or like having a kid upstairs practicing drums. If you lose your mind, suddenly you’re just some guy who hates kids.☕

If a dog is the barking type, it shouldn't be in an apartment where neighbors might be bothered by it. Apartments and houses are primarily designed for humans—animals can live there too, provided they can adapt to that lifestyle. If they can't, then presumably they should move out, not the neighbors.

@Mia

I completely agree regarding apartments, but I was actually thinking about a house with a yard—I should have been more specific, clearly.😳

It seems a bit irrational to expect someone to just move because their dog barks.😳 I'm not sure how things work in your neck of the woods, but over here, it isn't that simple—especially if we're talking about a mortgage or living with parents in a shared household.😳

Drew Ross2 said:Yeah, totally get the apartment thing, but I was thinking more about a house with a yard—should’ve specified that, my bad. 😳

It's kinda insane to expect people to just move out because their dog barks. 😳 Not sure how things work where you are, but here in the States, it's not that simple. Especially if we're talking about a massive mortgage or living with parents. 😳

Whatever. Even if it's a house with a yard right next to yours, if that dog is barking in its own space, it still bugs the person paying a fortune for their mortgage who just wants some peace. 🤷
Not sure about you, but I'm not gonna go around wearing earplugs in a place I pay way too much for just because someone else is being inconsiderate.

In America, having a dog in an apartment is normal, I don't see the issue at all. And why make such a huge scene? If someone says the owner should be locked up because their dog barks... damn, it's like saying they should be crucified or something. ☕

I’m cranking Led Zeppelin up to full blast today—maximum volume—and honestly, nobody has any right to complain about it. I mean, come on, they're Led Zeppelin! You don't just go around shutting them down like some amateur act. 😲

dustypilot11 said:It doesn't matter—if a house with a yard sits right next to yours and a dog is barking in that yard, it’s going to bother someone who’s paying a massive mortgage just to have a little peace and quiet. I guess it's just how it goes. 🤷
I don't know how things work in your neck of the woods, but I personally refuse to walk around my own place wearing earplugs—especially when I'm paying top dollar for the property—just because someone else can't bother to be considerate.

Having a dog in an apartment overnight—honestly, I don't see the issue. And I really don't get why people make such a massive scene about it—like if someone says a barking dog means the owner should be thrown in jail. It’s ridiculous. It’s almost like saying they should be roasted on a spit or something. ☕

Even behind closed doors, the noise finds a way out. 😁 It’s still audible—though, I suppose, perhaps a bit less so. 😳
That’s really the limit of what you can achieve—just shutting it down overnight and turning it into a house. Or maybe that's all there is to it, I guess.
It’s a decent enough suggestion—certainly better than that other idea involving the relocation. 😁

Drew Ross2 said:even if you lock a barking dog inside, it's still gonna be heard, just a bit less 😁 😳
and honestly, that's the best you can do—just bring him inside overnight.
that's actually a decent suggestion, way better than that crazy idea about moving away entirely 😁

Nah, that was his actual sentence. He's being forced to move his backyard dog into the house overnight. That's basically what all the drama is about.

If you ask me, he should lose the dog entirely if there's any truth to the abuse or chain allegations.
but if the dog is well-loved and just happens to be noisy... well, I guess he really should have brought him inside immediately.

I absolutely agree... I really do sign my name to every single word you just said.😒

Look, if she isn't meant to be treated like a pet in this house, then we're just pathetic 🙂because even the sheep in this house aren't acting right, and that's my point. 🙂

Rachel Palmer56 said:Sure, but if you don't respect them enough to let them inside, then we—the people actually living with them—are the ones looking pathetic.🙂

A dog isn't really meant for an apartment, at least not the larger breeds. I don't see an issue with them being indoors, but anyone making that choice should probably prepare themselves for the inevitable mess and ruined flooring immediately.😁
Most of the time, when it comes to houses, dogs end up out in the yard—at least in my neck of the woods and everywhere I know.

edit. I don't see anything pathetic about letting a little dog inside.😳

My girl has full access to the house and the yard, and when I'm out, she can even handle those little basement doors all by herself.
I definitely can't leave her outside since she's such a tiny thing. My big girl stays outdoors, though—she’s got her own spot in the garage and a bed that's strictly hers.
When it gets scorching hot in the summer, both of them just wander into the hallway to cool off. They only bark if they get spooked or feel like something's up.

I really hope you aren't talking to me, because if you are, you've actually lost it. Like I already told you, I don't even have a dog in my apartment, let alone a bunch of cats.

I share my apartment with a dog—a big one, actually—so he’s constantly riding shotgun in my car.
Honestly, if someone finds my dog bothersome or can't handle his presence, then they simply aren't welcome at my place.
He gets plenty of walks on his own, too. 🎉

To be perfectly honest, I find the lingering scent of cigarette smoke and the stench left behind by smokers much more offensive than a wet nose nudging my hand or a furry companion curling up beside me while I sleep. 🕺

You literally said you don't have 🙂
But you're the one who brought this up in the first place. Sorry, but you're wrong, and I'm not going to just sit here and let it slide.

And she walks. 🎉

Honestly, cigarette smoke and the smell in the house bother me way more than a nose sniffing me or curling up next to me while I sleep. 🕺

Exactly. Dogs shouldn't be kept on chains, and keeping them in crates isn't allowed by law either. 🙂

It honestly breaks my heart whenever I catch sight of a dog kept on a chain.
It’s a truly visceral, unsettling feeling.
And don't even get me started on pit bulls; there is absolutely nothing humane about that kind of treatment.

I have to say, my own dog is more socialized and better behaved in our apartment than most of the people living in my neighborhood!

She’s so quiet you barely even notice her, yet I’m constantly forced to endure the neighbors' kids starting their shouting matches and running around at six in the morning, thundering above my head or making a racket in the hallway.
Even though it's incredibly disruptive, I’ve never actually complained, because I genuinely love children—but surely there should be some standard of etiquette when living in an apartment complex? There really needs to be a sense of community responsibility, ensuring children are properly supervised rather than just left to run wild.
This isn't really about having a dog in an apartment; it’s about the owners, who would likely let their children step all over everyone else just as easily.
A dog doesn't have to be noisy or a nuisance to anyone at all, provided they are well-trained and their owners are actually attentive to the needs of those around them.
