European cinema

I’m big on old movies and old-school music... I don't follow trends... especially not those American ones

The "newer" stuff I actually watch is "Hannibal" and "Fargo"... since we're talking series... I absolutely love the first one because of Mads Mikkelsen... his movies too... and just the guy himself
but also the "Pusher" trilogy

The last thing I watched, which isn't related to him, was "The Woman & The Bureau"...... freaking amazing!!!!!! 👍

Looking for similar recommendations... better ones if you got them... I don't trust IMDb

You could also look into Spanish films featuring Javier Bardem, Manuel Noriega, or Belén Rueda, or maybe some Danish stuff starring Mads Mikkelsen, Bodni, Lia Kaas, or Anneke Trondsen—and don't forget the movies with Isabelle Huppert.

That first response is as obvious as the word "Facebook"... maybe I should just say "low-quality Hollywood garbage"

- thanks for being specific and for the suggestions... but feel free to go deeper... I know this subject inside out, so all I'm asking is for concrete proposals—stuff that actually works. Don't just tell me "I love this movie!" or suggest something like

I know who the Darden brothers, Amenábar, and Roman Polanski are... I follow them...

...I only started this thread to see... what actually holds up while Hollywood remains completely clueless...
like how they totally skipped over 13 Tzameti... basically ignored it...

Europe isn't some single country, so talking about "European cinema" as one big thing just doesn't make sense. It’s more like talking about various different film industries. You've got the giants—think the US, Germany, Italy, France, Spain, the UK—but even the smaller ones like Romania, Czechia, Sweden, or those old regional classics have their own specific vibes and themes. Honestly, I think this whole discussion is kind of redundant. If we really want to chat about this, maybe we should just start one dedicated thread for all those smaller film industries. There aren't that many posts about them anyway, and they usually die out pretty fast on their own.

That first point totally floored me, because clearly I haven't reached those intellectual heights yet where I can even attempt to argue at such a high level. We could probably hash out the second point, but given that it's Monday and I'm currently nursing a massive hangover and a splitting headache, I'm basically paralyzed.

So, what’s actually the difference between European cinema and... well, just regular European cinema? 😁

Basically just giving everyone the middle finger (mostly to thin air, if you catch my drift).
