USB drive virus?

My folders on this USB drive have all turned into shortcuts, and I can't open a single one. This data is critical for me. Is there any way to fix this?

I tried using the Command Prompt to run those recovery commands—you know, targeting the G: drive—but nothing works. Most people online point toward Google as a solution for this kind of thing, but I'm stuck.

What exactly do you mean when you say the folders won't open? What happens when you double-click those shortcuts?

It’s the exact same issue I ran into—take a look at the solution I posted in my thread. restlesstiger49 provided the link.

Heads up for anyone plugging their thumb drives into random computers—you can get hit by that annoying shortcut virus
basically this specific type of malware
I dealt with this crap for years before I finally figured out a workaround
either grab a new drive or just wipe yours if it's already infected
then just open Notepad and paste this in

attrib -s -h -r autorun.*
del autorun.*
mkdir "\\?\%~d0\autorun.inf\name..\"
attrib +s +h %~d0\autorun.inf

Save it as a .bat file—like usb.bat—drop it right on the stick and run it
that stops the autorun madness
on your rig or any other PC, since that's exactly how this virus spreads via autorun
if someone wants to see what's on the drive, they'll just have to go through My Computer -> USB manually
