For the younger crowd, or anyone who missed this part, Cornell was actually roommates with Andrew Wood—the frontman for Mother Love Bone—back in Seattle in the late '80s. After Wood passed away from an overdose in 1990, Cornell decided to honor him with an album. He teamed up with the remaining members of Mother Love Bone (who, at the time, were starting to work on a new project with Eddie Vedder that eventually became Pearl Jam) to record Temple of the Dog. Cornell wrote most of the tracks.

A medical examiner has officially concluded that Soundgarden vocalist Chris Cornell took his own life.

According to findings released by The Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office, Cornell’s passing was the result of "suicide by hanging."

As noted in coverage from The Detroit Free Press and The Detroit News both reported that Cornell was found dead in a hotel room AT The MGM Grand Detroit hotel with "a band around his neck," though we are still waiting for official confirmation from the police departments involved to back up those specific details.

At this stage, the complete autopsy report—which will eventually include all the necessary toxicology data—is still being finalized.

He actually performed it at his previous shows too, so it wasn't just some spontaneous thing during that final night; he might have been hinting at what was coming all along. We’ll never truly know the truth behind it.

The Los Angeles Angels agency posted several tributes to Chris yesterday, but there was one specific line at the end that really hit me hard. It said, "Hey kids, go to those damn gigs, listen to as much music as you can, because you'll see how quickly everything just vanishes."

I'm just so grateful they gave us the chance to see him perform here in Washington, D.C.; who could have possibly guessed that would end up being our very last opportunity to witness him live...
