It’s kind of wild that the movie is basically wrapping up its run through Europe and North America already and we still don't have a dedicated thread for it.
I was super skeptical at first—and honestly, I haven't even sat down to watch it yet—but I gotta say, it’s pretty surprising how much better it’s doing with both audiences and critics than anyone actually expected.

Here’s the trailer. I’d love if someone (please use spoiler tags!) could give me the lowdown on whether this is actually worth seeing on the big screen or if it's just hype.

Honestly, the movie didn't really land in Europe, but it was pretty decent here in the States.

If you spend 100 mil on a film, you gotta pull in at least 200 just to break even.

The thing is, it doesn't even hit China until May 12th, and it won't be out in Japan until July 15th.
Those two markets might save it from a total loss, but I wouldn't hold my breath for a sequel.

It’ll cruise past $300 million without breaking a sweat, so there's no way anyone can call this a flop.
If it actually hits the $500 million mark, then we're looking at a massive chance for a sequel...

But where's that money coming from? It’s already been out for four weeks in the USA and Canada, and after that window, most of the cash is basically in the bag.

They still need to pull in another $170 million. Maybe they pull it off if the thing turns into a massive hit in China.
But hitting $500 million? I just don't see it happening...
Unless it goes absolutely nuts in China and starts breaking records like Transformers did.

Who is the target audience for this, really? The concept itself seems fine, though I suspect its primary demographic is limited to preschoolers.

Well, I guess we'll just have to see if those kids actually watch it. 😁

I watched it. 😬 I had a good time, though judging by my avatar, I guess I’m still a bit of a kid at heart. 🙂 It would be a shame if they didn't make a sequel, but honestly, I think they wrapped things up pretty well as it is.

The main characters are completely uninspired, and the whole movie feels like typical teen fodder—stuff you only enjoy if you're under 21. I sat through it once, and I certainly won't be doing it again. It’s just one of those pieces of trash from my childhood that I'd rather leave as a memory of Saturday morning cartoons from fifteen years ago.

I watched it too 😳. Honestly, it was actually fun—way more than I expected 🎉. I wasn't exactly a die-hard fan of the series growing up, though I tuned in occasionally, so I knew the drill. It turned out to be a really solid balance—think teenage drama mixed with superpowers. It isn't perfect, but it’s a good 👍.

In my head, I keep comparing it to the new Fantastic Four, and if we're talking about teenagers suddenly gaining powers, this one is infinitely better 😬.

The movie basically just has an intro, an intro, and then an ending. There’s zero actual development.

It starts off strong, I'll give it that, but once you get past the setup, there's just nothing there—it's like the whole intro drags on for an hour and a half and then we just skip straight to the credits.
It’s seriously lacking action. We don't even get to see the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers fighting on foot because they jump straight into the giant robots, which is such a huge bummer since I really wanted to see them holding their own in a scrap.
And man, that finale? It was nothing special... honestly, the whole thing could have been handled way better. Don't get me wrong, the beginning is great—actually, it's fantastic because it does such a good job setting the scene—but it just lingers way too long and feels super stretched out. Just so nobody thinks I'm being light about this, I actually love a good drama and movies with a slower burn, so I'm definitely not one of those people demanding nonstop explosions without any dialogue.

I looked at it from a business perspective and actually had a blast.

It’s true they spent way too much time on the intro, so there isn't tons of actual Ranger action. But once they finally hit that "go, go Power Rangers" vibe, the nostalgia kicks in.

The visual effects are solid, too, especially during that mountain jumping sequence at the start.

And the bank teller is clearly having the time of their life.

Better than I expected.
The first half plays out like your standard YA fare—a group of teens finding themselves while uncovering secrets together. Honestly, if I were thirteen years old watching this, it would probably be the greatest movie ever made. As for the action... it’s definitely geared toward kids. There’s really only one way to handle a fight involving giant robot dinosaurs versus skyscraper-sized monsters. 😁 I'm actually glad they saved all that spectacle for the finale.
I can't quite recall the specifics of those nineties flicks since it's been ages, but this feels like it sits right in that same ballpark. It might even take a slightly more serious approach to the plot. That said, if you're riding a heavy wave of nostalgia, there's a good chance you'll end up disappointed.

I had a blast. You don't go into movies like this expecting some deep intellectual masterpiece; they're just meant to be fun summer afternoon flicks.

Pretty meh.

It honestly feels like they cut an entire hour out of the movie.

The characters have zero depth, the plot is all over the place, and the whole thing just feels sluggish.

Don't get me wrong, it looks great visually, but the film is totally hollow. It isn't even fun in a "so bad it's good" kind of way.

Totally agree, I actually tuned out when they were talking to Zordon or whatever his name is. Just so boring...

Didn't think we'd actually see a sequel after that first movie was such a total disaster. Guess since Hasbro bought Saban, they'll finally have the cash to make the next one suck a little less.
