HP Wi-Fi isn't working

Hi there,

I'm working with an old Dell OptiPlex running Windows 7, and I'm having a nightmare trying to get the Wi-Fi to actually show up.
Right now, I've got my modem hardwired through AOL, and everything is working perfectly fine—but I'm trying to get this machine onto my Wi-Fi via a separate router. I've gone through the trouble of downloading every possible wireless driver available on HP's support site, but nothing is working. When I check the Device Manager, there’s absolutely nothing listed under wireless drivers. The only thing appearing is the Local Area Connection. I've tried both Realtek and Intel drivers, but it's just... nothing. It's incredibly frustrating because when I run the installers, they claim the installation was successful, yet when I look back at the Device Manager, all I see is that single Local Area Connection.
If anyone out there knows how to fix this mess, I would be sincerely grateful for any help.

Is your Wi-Fi actually turned on on the laptop? Is the indicator light even lit?

EDIT: Wait, hold on, this is a microtower, not a laptop? Are you even sure there’s a Wi-Fi adapter installed? Wireless card is optional in a microtower...

Wait, hold on... is this actually a microtower and not a laptop? Are you absolutely certain there's even a Wi-Fi adapter in there? It’s worth noting that the wireless card isn't actually a mandatory component. It’s strictly an optional add-on if you need it. So, I was looking at this microtower setup...

I mean, I honestly don't know... do you actually have any idea how to go about checking that?

It seems to me like you don't even have that wireless card installed. xD Why not open it up and check if anything besides a GPU is actually plugged into a PCIe slot?

It’s actually pretty simple to fix this without even needing a forum, isn't it? 😬

It was honestly such a massive mistake on my part, because I only just picked up that HP
last summer. 😠If anyone actually knew what they were getting into with this model, they wouldn't even dream of touching it.

I mean, you rarely see a desktop coming with a Wi-Fi adapter right out of the box anyway.

If you really can't stand running cables, you can just plug in a USB adapter, install the drivers, and boom—you've got Wi-Fi on your desktop. It's pretty straightforward, right? Plus, it looks like it's still on sale at Best Buy...
