Dammit, I messed up because I order from them online all the time, but then I just swing by their local branch to pick it up... and every single time they tell me I've got an 8-day window to return stuff if I'm unhappy, as long as I don't wreck the packaging.🤷

I dropped by Best Buy earlier today, just like I mentioned yesterday, to look into that issue for you. They’re going to authorize a full refund for those two graphics cards. Since you opted for the three-month installment plan, the credit will go straight back onto the card you used for the purchase. If you used an American Express, expect to wait about ten days for the funds to show up; if it was Diners Club, it should be closer to two or three days.

So, there isn't really a problem here. Of course, besides the refund, you have the option to swap them out for something else instead.
Honestly, they handled things quite fairly. No complaints there.

As for why you have to wait for the money to hit your account? It's simply how it works with American Express. Even when Best Buy processes a transaction through American Express, they have to wait about ten days to get the cash, so you're stuck waiting too. It's just how the system moves—slow and steady. Diners Club and MasterCard are much faster at processing these things.

It’s not an issue. Obviously, besides the refund, you can pick out a replacement for anything else.

Why the wait for the refund? Because that's just how it works with American Express. Even when Best Buy processes a payment via American Express, they have to wait about 10 days to get the cash, so you're stuck waiting too. It's like trying to turn a massive cargo ship—it's slow. Diners and Master are way faster at moving the money.

Well, props to you for putting in the work! 👍

Why do you have to wait for the money to hit your card? Well, that's just how it works with American Express. When you buy something through American Express, even Best Buy has to wait about 10 days to receive the funds, so you'll have to wait too. I guess American Express is just slow. Diners and Master seem to react much faster.

Thanks. Everything is resolved now. They processed the partial refund properly. We picked up an Intel 120GB SSD on sale along with some 4GB DDR3 1600 RAM, and the remaining balance was sent back to my American Express. The money should arrive in 8-10 days, just as you predicted. I actually called American Express, and they confirmed they received the credit from Best Buy for the difference. The whole process went smoothly, and they were very professional; I suppose they are used to dealing with much worse situations. 😛

I should probably mention that getting a refund processed back onto an American Express card usually takes about 8 to 10 business days. I suppose I have no idea why the system takes that long to cycle through, but the important thing is that the funds do eventually return.

Hold on—if you were paying with an American Express, you probably haven't even seen your October statement yet...

Credit card transactions just work differently. It’s never that fast.

Besides, credit card transactions work differently; things don't just move that fast.

It all depends on when his billing cycle hits. For instance, I get my bill on the 15th for the period running from the 13th of last month to the 13th of this month. So, theoretically, if I buy something on the 12th, it'll be processed and sitting right there on my bill in just two days.☕

Don't confuse the statement date with the actual due date.

For me, my statement closes on the 1st or 2nd of the month for everything I spent last month, but the bill isn't actually due until mid-month.

Maybe someone else has their cycle close on the 15th, but they aren't expected to pay right then either—it wouldn't be due until the end of the month. A credit card bill never hits you immediately after you swipe. There’s always a gap: period > statement > invoice > payment due date.

Nice. Had a good experience there. Links has really stepped up lately, turning into a major player with more than a couple of locations 😬 across the US, and they actually nail both the selection and the pricing... Personally, even at the store in Columbus, the staff was pretty helpful and knew their stuff.

Maybe someone else has their cycle end on the 15th, but they aren't expected to pay immediately either—it wouldn't be due until the end of the month. It’s just like a credit card; the charge never hits your wallet instantly. There's always this lag: period > billing > invoice > payment due date.

Exactly! Look at my own Amex statement this month (applies to any month, really): my billing cycle runs from Sept 13th to Oct 13th, then I get the bill between Oct 16th and 17th depending on the mail, with a due date of Oct 20th. So, if I wasn't paying attention (hypothetically speaking 😬), and I ran something on my Amex on Oct 12th, that would show up on the statement I get on the 16th, and I'd have to pay it by the 20th... does that make sense now? 😉

I get the bill around Oct 16th or 17th, depending on when the mail arrives, and it’s due by the 20th. So, if I wasn't paying attention—not that I ever am, but let's pretend 😬—and I put something on the card on Oct 12th, that charge shows up on the bill I get on the 16th, and I have to pay it by the 20th... see what I mean now? 😉

We're saying the same thing... you don't actually pay until a week or two after the cycle ends. Whether the statement hits your mailbox the day after the period closes doesn't really change the math.

Like I said, my brother and I get our payout just 7 days after the billing cycle wraps up. If anyone else is seeing theirs hit 14 or 21 days later, shoot me a DM and let me know how you're pulling that off—I wouldn't mind having that "privilege" myself 😬

Chase offered me a payout around the 9th or maybe the 24th. That’s over three weeks after the period wraps up (mine follows the calendar month)
It's a Mastercard from Chase. My student Visa from Chase hits around the 5th or 6th.
Honestly, I don't care. My paycheck hits at the start of the month anyway. If I'm broke by the 10th, I'm still gonna be broke on the 25th.

You can always try asking them for a better deal if you actually care about that stuff.
