The Magnificent Seven (2016)

It looks like Quentin Tarantino isn't the only one feeling nostalgic for the Western—we've actually got another remake of The Magnificent Seven on the way.

What a load of nonsense. You’ve mostly got a group of actors who just can't seem to command the screen, whereas the original movie was anchored by some of the most legendary heavyweights to ever grace the silver screen: Steve McQueen, Yul Brynner, Henry Fonda, and Charles Bronson...

The original was Seven Samurai. This looks pretty solid to me; honestly, I can't wait.

This is going to be great; Denzel has never made a bad movie in his life.

Alright, I gave it a watch. It wasn't half bad, I suppose. Though, I have to say, it felt a little cliché in certain spots.

Not a bad flick—though I haven't actually seen the original one. My main gripe is that the villain feels pretty thin; he’s basically just a caricature, which kind of pulls me out of the whole experience. Also, there's this bit at the start where they mention capitalism, and honestly, it felt a little off—it's hard to imagine him being familiar with the term back then, since it didn't really hit the mainstream until the late 19th century. In fact, the first real written trace of the word pops up in The Newcomes by William Makepeace Thackeray (way back in 1854).

I have to say, I was honestly expecting a whole lot more from this movie than what I actually got.
