Hello,

Since yesterday, I've been wrestling with a rather stubborn issue when trying to boot Windows. Everything seems perfectly fine if I opt for Safe Mode, but whenever I attempt to select Windows normally, things take a turn for the worse. After the initial Windows loading screen, I’m left staring at the desktop background—just the wallpaper, really. There are no icons, no taskbar, nothing. It’s quite an empty view. To make matters more frustrating, if I try to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del, the screen just goes black. I’ve had to resort to memorizing the physical button sequences on my chassis just to navigate through the shutdown or reboot menus.

Looking through the event logs, this is what I'm seeing:

The Computer browser service depends on the Server service which failed to start because of the following error:
The dependency service or group failed to start.

I did run a system scan while in Safe Mode, but unfortunately, it didn't find any errors or issues.
I haven't installed any new software in the last few days, so I can't say for certain that a specific installation triggered this sudden decline.

My specs:
Gigabyte M52L-S3P
AMD Athlon II X2 250
6GB DDR2
ATI Radeon hd 3800 Win 7 64
Win 7 64bit

If anyone here has encountered a similar headache or happens to have a solution, I would be immensely grateful for your help...

Thanks,

☕

Try running a Windows repair—basically, pop in a Windows installation disc, boot up your PC from that DVD, and then select the repair option. It might be worth seeing if that does the trick.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I actually managed to sort it out... turns out the culprit was the graphics card. Since I have both a monitor and a TV hooked up to the GPU and set to duplicate my display, the card somehow got completely tripped up by the conflicting resolutions. Everything looked perfectly fine on the TV, but the monitor was just spitting out this grainy, garbled mess. I couldn't fix the resolution through Windows settings at all; I had to jump straight into the AMD Catalyst Center to manually recalibrate everything. I scoured some US tech forums looking for a similar fix, but everyone just kept pointing me toward creating a restore point or attempting a Windows repair. Anyway, thanks for the help. Mod, feel free to lock this thread... ☕
