Laptop won't charge

My laptop won't charge at all. Even the charging indicator light isn't turning on. I haven't used the thing in about ten days, and everything was working perfectly fine until then. I tried powering it up this morning and, nothing. I tested the power adapter and I'm pretty sure it's putting out juice... Any idea what might be causing this? What kind of hardware failure am I looking at here?

If it turns out the charger isn't the culprit, then the charging port on the laptop might be shot... (it happens more often than you'd think). My advice? Just take it into a repair shop.

I've got an older laptop sitting around that isn't worth much and I rarely ever touch it. I honestly can't tell if it's even worth paying a repair shop to look at. Do you think I could try to tackle this myself at home...?

Pull the battery, unplug the power adapter, and hold down the power button for about 20 seconds.

Once you've done that, plug the charger back in and try booting the laptop up again.

Look, just leave it on the charger overnight. Sometimes if the battery drains too low, it just hits a wall and goes completely unresponsive. Once you've done that, try resetting it the way they described above.

Actually, the laptop should still run on AC power even if the battery is dead. If it won't turn on at all, then either your charger is shot or there's an issue with the power input circuit on the motherboard—and you aren't fixing that one yourself...

It’s most likely a voltage switch issue...
