boldwalker12 said:So, you're saying the swastika and the cross are basically the same thing?
That kind of logic doesn't really help your case, I guess.

I mean, the swastika was used to openly murder gay people and subject them to these horrific, inhumane experiments... so if someone is looking for a "provocation," I suppose being run over by a car makes for a more fitting target than just dealing with someone who doesn't want to be around you. But hey, that's just my two cents, anyway. Also, I feel like people throw the term "homophobic" around way too easily these days, maybe.

So, let me get this straight—you guys don't seem to have any issues with hating on people who are different, but suddenly you're all bothered by someone else posting about love and positivity? I guess that's one way to look at things, though the logic feels a little... interesting.

If someone is looking for a "provocation," I’d say being trampled by a crowd is a much more fitting target than someone who simply doesn't want to associate with you. That’s just my take, anyway—and honestly, people toss the term "homophobic" around way too lightly these days.

Oh, goodness, no! I am certainly not talking about *that* version of the symbol. I'm referring to the ancient one, the kind used ages ago in India as a beautiful sign of prosperity and goodwill.

Do you see where I'm coming from here? It's all about context...

Unfortunately, there isn't much I can do to clarify things for you here.

Please, I urge you not to pursue this particular line of reasoning. In my experience, any attempt at a reasoned, valid, and constructive debate that happens to clash with the Admin's personal views usually ends with someone getting locked out.

This topic actually has real potential for a high-quality discussion on its own, without you trying to twist my comparisons to suit your agenda.

Thanks.

No, I see exactly what you're doing, and frankly, it's a massive strawman argument.
You're trying to claim that if a rainbow cross is permitted, then a rainbow swastika should be too. But even you admitted that the issue lies with the rainbow colors, not the cross—which is perfectly legal—unlike the Nazi swastika.
Honestly, even a clueless ten-year-old wouldn't buy that logic. If you want a real debate, come back when you have an actual argument.

John Newman34 said:Look, I'm not talking about that hateful little icon. I’m talking about the ancient one, from way back in the day used in ancient India as a symbol for prosperity and good vibes.

See where I'm coming from...

The swastika eventually became this infamous, tainted symbol. A cross, on the other hand, stays a symbol of Christianity regardless of the bad stuff people have done under its name—it isn't defined by those actions, whereas the swastika is forever stained. If you can't wrap your head around that, then honestly, there's no point in trying to have a real debate here.

And no, I'm not trolling. I am genuinely trying to explain why you can't actually have a productive discussion using those kinds of "arguments."

Stop trolling.

That wasn't even close to what I meant, so please, let's not get pedantic about my wording here.
Let’s just get back to the original post.

And Admin, if you could please clear out these troll comments? They're honestly just a huge distraction from the actual point I'm trying to make.

You haven't actually made a single point, and you certainly haven't provided any real arguments for banning the cross. Honestly, once you brought up the swastika, you effectively disqualified yourself from having a serious conversation. At this stage, all we can do is sit back and enjoy watching you dig your own hole with those desperate logical gymnastics.

boldwalker12 said:It's not about opponents; it's about people who just plain hate.

Not really. By your logic, I’d be labeled a homophobe simply because we disagree on ideology. But I'm not "guilty" of anything, right? After all, you don't argue with someone you consider sick, do you? ☕

Carol Bishop27 said:So, let me get this straight: you don't have an issue with hatred or intolerance toward anyone different, but you take offense at someone else promoting an image of love? That's some interesting logic.

Are you actually being serious right now? I mean it, are you?

I have to hand it to you guys, you really go out of your way to avoid making the point. 👍

A rainbow cross can feel offensive to Christians. By that logic, a rainbow swastika would be offensive to the gay community. What about Judaism?

This thread isn't intended for users to debate one another's personal opinions. I'm locking this topic for the time being. By "temporary," I mean until those responsible for making decisions or influencing these matters weigh in (Anderson, rustydrifter10). They have the authority to unlock this, issue a formal decision or opinion if they see fit, and decide whether to leave it open for further discussion... Until then, there's little point in continuing.

John Newman34 said:As for the Admin, honestly, I don't really care about anything else—I just want some straight answers to those two pointed questions I asked!

So, I’ve been thinking—is every religion treated with the same level of respect here on this forum?

Yeah.

John Newman34 said:Is it actually legal—and to what extent—to modify the official symbol of a specific religion?

Look, we definitely have some guidelines in place. It’s hard to pin down an exact rulebook because, honestly, it really comes down to the specific situation—we evaluate things on a case-by-case basis. But our main north star is making sure nothing goes against what I mentioned in my previous thread: we can't have anything that breaks the law, promotes human rights violations, or falls into the category of direct, obvious, or even general insults. Basically, if it's inappropriate in any other way, it's a no-go. If you're sitting there wondering whether your idea for an avatar is going to fly, just shoot me a private message with the image! I can take a look and give you a much clearer answer, and if it's a "no," I'll be happy to explain exactly why.

Look, let’s be clear about one thing: this isn't some sterile, sanitized bubble. If we went around banning absolutely everything that could be perceived as provocative by every single person on the planet, this place would become a pretty depressing void. I totally get why an avatar like this might trigger some strong emotions for certain people, especially since it involves a religious symbol. But honestly, almost any image that isn't a standard textbook illustration could be seen through that lens if you look hard enough. Our job here is to figure out where that line actually sits—to decide when something crosses over from being just an image to actually violating the spirit of our community. We aren't picking sides, either; we're trying to handle every problematic avatar with the exact same level of consistency.

Just a quick heads-up regarding Anderson—he’s around the forum pretty regularly, so he can definitely jump in whenever he feels like he needs to weigh in. Also, I’d really appreciate it if we didn't start any duplicate threads for this topic, as that goes against our community rules here.
