So, I have a quick question from someone who's clearly out of the loop here :-P basically, I've got this monitor at home that uses a standard VGA cable, but the computer I borrowed doesn't actually have a port for it on the back of the case. Here's what it looks like

I guess I was wondering, what kind of adapter or cable would I need to get these two things to talk to each other?

You’re gonna need a female VGA to male DVI cable or some kind of converter...

Oh, I guess I might have been mistaken about how that works, though I was thinking it might be something like that. Do I really need to worry about which specific DVI connector I pick out? I noticed there seem to be a bunch of different versions out there
...I mean, is it possible they all just fit perfectly fine regardless?

From what I can tell, you're looking at a DVI-I connector. Just Google the different types—the I, the D, whatever... look at the pictures and you'll see how they differ 😉

Try plugging that DVI-to-VGA adapter into this specific DVI port on the PC first. If nothing happens, it means that particular port is strictly digital.
If you use the other DVI port on the computer, it should work fine since that one supports both digital and analog signals.
