Pin this: Veterans protest thread

So, we’ve hit the fourth iteration of the Veterans protest discussion, yet somehow... it isn't even trending.

Is there any way to fix that... or is it just lost in the noise?

If you ask me, we end up giving them far too much oxygen anyway, so I don't see why this should be treated as some major headline.

No need. Everything currently relevant is already at the top of the agenda anyway. But fine, we'll see what happens Monday at 10:00.

Trending topics should be things that naturally rise to the top, not stuff someone manually forces their way onto the front page.
I guess I’d just get rid of the "trending" label altogether,
unless we’re talking about critical announcements or, obviously, the site rules.
A thread is either relevant or it isn't—it shouldn't need a label to be a "top topic."

Right now, the Veterans protest clearly isn't a trending topic,
but it’s far too easy to just "bump" it so it looks like one.
If people actually care, they’ll find it eventually.

The "top topics" designation is reserved for subjects deemed significant by the moderators or those carrying particular weight for the community and society at large. A Veterans protest isn't exactly breaking news anymore, so there is no reason for it to be pinned at the top; besides, as others have pointed out, if people start discussing it, it will naturally rise to the top anyway.
