Can someone point me toward a decent motherboard from what’s available for this build? Also, honestly, should I stick with my current one or just grab that new one from Flextronics?

Do you actually need a case or not?
Go shop somewhere else, because Micro Center doesn't carry all the best value motherboards.

Ran it without a case on my old rig, then jumped straight over to the future

That Silverstone unit is basically just their office-grade stuff, similar to the Corsair VS series, though maybe with slightly better capacitors. There's a version without the -230 that's been bumped up, which I guess would be the next step up in quality toward the STxxF-ESB models.

I wonder what they'll put it in for free? πŸ™‚>

He probably assumed they’d just assemble everything in the case for him and ship it straight to his doorstep in 😁

Thanks guys! I just put together a similar buildβ€”pretty much identical to what Patrick Diaz49 laid out, though I had to settle for 4GB of RAM since my budget was tight. But hey, it works! Thanks again, everyone.

Just wanted to brag a bitβ€”finally picked up a rig based on those recommendations. Now that it’s running, I have a few questions. This Spire Kepler cooler seems pretty loud; I honestly have no clue if that's supposed to be normal. Also, my CPU (Intel Core i7-2600K) sits at about 35 degrees at idle. Is that temperature alright? When I'm playing GTA V, it climbs up to 60 degrees.
One more thing that is driving me absolutely insane. Whenever I'm watching videos on YouTube, a line pops up during scene transitions that splits the screen in two. It happens every single time. Anyone have any idea what the issue might be?
EDIT: This only happens when I'm in full screen. I've been checking Dailymotion and I don't notice anything there..

Temperatures look fine to me.

If the fan noise from your CPU cooler is starting to get on your nerves, you can always jump into the BIOSβ€”you should be able to tweak the RPM settings there to either "silent" or "normal" if it's currently cranked up to "high."

As for that YouTube issue? Honestly, I haven't got a clue.

I tried messing with the fan speeds in the BIOS, but the RPM stays stuck at the same level regardless of what I do.
Edit: Okay, scratch that. I finally managed to get the fan speed down.

It’s quieter now than it was before, which I don't mind. The only thing that actually bugs me is that YouTube video, but whatever. Thanks, everyone. πŸ™‚

Try installing the latest Chrome and Firefox versions along with Flash
and see if that actually changes anything.

Check those temperatures again now that you've dialed back the RPM. Lower RPM means less cooling. You really shouldn't be letting it creep too close to 70Β°C.

Forgive my sudden detour into irrelevant territoryβ€”I know we're supposed to be discussing hardware specifics hereβ€”but I can't help myself: how on earth does GTA 5 perform on a rig with those specs?πŸ™‚

I was wondering if there's actually a significant performance gap between the Intel Celeron G1840 2.8, which comes with 2MB, on the LGA 1150 socket, and the INTEL Pentium Processor G3220 (3.00GHz, 512KB, 3MB, 54 W, 1150) Box featuring the INTEL HD Graphics...

Jack Wood87

It runs at high settings with +40 fps (that's at 1080p, by the way).

Sam Murphy

There's barely any differenceβ€”it’s almost unnoticeable. Honestly, if you're planning on doing a lot of multitasking, the G3220 is probably the better call since that slightly higher clock speed and extra cache actually start to matter then.

It really depends on what you're planning to do. If you look at these "relative performance" results from some benchmarks, we're talking about maybe a 7% gap herelink

Looking at the big picture, the Celeron offers a much better value proposition since they sit around $100, whereas the Pentiums are closer to $167 without offering a significant boost in power

On another note, this is currently a pretty interesting deal sitting right around $167

So, I guess this is more or less what I’d need if I wanted to squeeze every last bit of performance out of my NVIDIA GeForce GT 730...

1 x Intel Celeron G1840 2.8GHz, 2MB, LGA 1150
1 x MSI H81M P33 (s1150, DDR3, SataIII, VGA/DVI) mATX
1 x Transcend 4GB DDR3 1333MHz bulk memory
