Zombies! Honestly, I dug it. There’s something about that Aussie slang that just hits different—all those "bloody hell" and "mate" vibes.

Solid zombie flick, 7/10. They really went all out on the creative weaponry, the scrap armor, the custom rigs, and the kills...

If you're into zombies, this is a total must-see.

For such a tiny budget, this thing looks absolutely killer—the colors and the cinematography are just spot on. I do wish it was a little more crazy, though; it stays a bit too serious even with those funny comedic touches sprinkled in. It can't quite dodge a few clichés here and there, but honestly, there are enough fresh ideas that you'll end up binge-watching it in one go.
The acting is top-tier too, and the lead actor actually reminds me a bit of Eric Bana.

Huge recommendation from me! I really think it deserves way more than a 7/10.

Also, the whole thing felt a bit too serious for me—like, it had this heavy foundation that I just couldn't really vibe with. Maybe I didn't word it right, but the tone was just way too intense. I really miss that goofy, ridiculous energy you get in something like Feast.

I'm all for a sequel too, especially since his sister got that power to control the zombies now—that makes her seriously cool.

Personally, I think it’s pretty well balanced—not too much mushy crap and not too much comedy either.

Guns, cars running over zombies, that one native guy, the soldiers, someone getting their nose ripped off... I dunno, what else do you even need?

It is a rather interesting bit of trivia that Dawn of the Dead was essentially an amateur undertaking, filmed purely on sheer enthusiasm during weekends over the course of four years. Despite this, the film doesn't come across as amateurish; it might lean slightly toward a fan-driven aesthetic, but it certainly avoids being dilettantish. While the cast consists of unknowns, that does not preclude them from being professionals, and they were quite excellently cast and utilized. The Roache-Turner brothers clearly possessed a very firm grasp of their creative objectives, and they succeeded in meeting them. Ultimately, Dawn of the Dead is a perfectly decent film that manages to feel fresh and genuinely entertaining, even when working with a tired premise and rigid genre tropes.

Look, I’ve never been much of a fan of that whole zombie subgenre, but honestly? This flick caught me way off guard in the best way possible. I actually had a blast watching it. It’s hands down better than half those big-budget blockbusters out there right now.

Yeah, a movie where zombies eat farts is basically the blueprint for how a zombie flick should be.

To me, this was just mediocre, if that. Annoying characters, trash dialogue, that stupid fart MacGuffin because they couldn't think of anything better, the whole thing with the main guy's sister controlling the zombies... it's fine for one watch, but even then, there's zero tension. It isn't even funny, yet it acts like it is. Looking at the massive pile of zombie movies out there, I'd put this somewhere above Demented but below Cockneys vs Zombies.

Exactly. Zombies work perfectly in horror comedies like Braindead or Shaun of the Dead. For more serious stuff, NOTLD remains my top pick for the genre.

In World War Z, those zombies actually leap onto a helicopter mid-flight and start scaling the side. To me, that movie feels at least a bit more grounded in reality.

Exactly. My point was that this movie doesn't go overboard like World War Z—which is honestly a total disaster and only got decent reviews because Brad Pitt is in it. Obviously, zombies aren't real, but even if they were, I highly doubt they could scale walls like spiders or leap a hundred feet into the air like they’re some distant relative of Spider-Man. 😬

When you realize they spent that much on the movie for such little money, it's just wild. If they had actually bothered to make it follow the book—which is easily a hundred times better than the film itself—maybe then they could have justified wasting all that cash
